This was a great place to sit quietly and get some work done. Canny little cafe on site too for drinks and snacks. A great view to look out onto.

Great multi-functional building with a traditional library, online resources and free web access, conference and exhibition spaces, tourist information, a shop selling locally-branded items, and a nice cafe! Phew! Well worth a visit!

The stars are for the staff as they are helpful. South Shields used to have a library. This new building they call 'The Word' has a very poor selection of books. It is more of a community centre for the slobs to let their degenerate kids run around and scream. The computers are ridiculously slow. A library should be quiet. There were signs in the old library to make this clear. The population of South Shields are too dense and inbred to understand, therefore signs should be in place. People need to be asked to leave if they are incapable of being courteous to others.

Me and my friend were studying for our A levels, we had not eaten anything since lunch time so we bring a small snack as we would be there for a while. A worker came over and told us we can't eat in here, which is understandable but her tone upset me and my friend. When she walked past us again she gave us very judgemental looks, which we were offended by.

Attended on Sunday to get information on cycling routes, the young lady in the shop couldn't do enough for us, service like it used to be good old fashioned helpfulness. 5stars I wish I had caught her name

Fantastic facilities and children's section. Always visit the exhibition and this time it was a Lego exhibition. There was free play Lego too. Interactive screens to play games and the cafe is great here as well

Called in for a spot of lunch, looked round the library then visited the 'Brick Wonder' Lego exhibition. If you like Lego and you're in the neighborhood, then it's well worth a visit. It's not very big but well presented.

The Word, South Shields, has a great Lego exhibition at the moment.
In the shop there are some lovely pieces of hand-made art, jewellery and glass work.
I bought an unusual piece of 'raw art', made by Jimmy Gibson. It is a square piece of wood with a sawn heart shape on top. It has twine wrapped around it with a key attached. I would like to thank Jimmy for this and the shop for displaying it.
Apparently, Jimmy finds unwanted things and makes art from them. I have named the piece of Jimmy's art which I bought 'The Key to Your Heart'. Thank you Jimmy x
