Information is great, explaining the history behind the building's and what thay were used for. Very interesting and great to see how well kept it is. Well worth the walk and follow the path down along the river to see the cottages. Thay are a little worse for wear, but good to see never the less.

The furnace is a short walk down a lane. Parking is signed off the main road. Quite a fast road so keep ye eyes peeled. The furnace looks amazing, a little bit ominous but an important historical building. Lovely walk down to the river, pretty short and you get the company of a fella with a big nose, not me lol.

Sadly the open days are few and far between and it seems the place is left in a state of disrepair most of the time, open to vandals and fly tippers.Sad state of affairs for a piece of local history of a bygone era such as this. A few good walks lead from the area, both across the road to the Derwent Walk or along to BlackhallMill and Chopwell woods.

The place is currently closed. Parking is currently off the main road which you must cross and then walk down the lane to the site. Do not follow google maps if travelling by car to the Furnace as the lane is closed to cars.

An insight into the steel industry of the north east from the 17th/18th century. We visited on an Heritage Open Day, it's not open all the time.
