A busy little cafe. Not much space between tables to move about comfortably. I had a cheese scone, and my granddaughter had a blueberry cupcake they were both delicious. Staff were friendly and happy in their work.

Yet again staff always forget to bring your full order over . Slow process when ordering???? as well . We just want to relax when we go out , not having to get up n down all the time wondering where our order is, l finished my cup of tea and they still had not brought my cake over .

Beware as Google maps told us it was closed on Saturdays but it is open. It's a lovely bright space, comfortable for hours of chat without feeling you should leave! Good menu choices. Coffee was good. Friendly service. A great find!

Orderd one of the amazing salads for my lunch today . I work in North shields rang up and collected 10 min later highly recommende food was ready when I arrived and staff were really friendly. Salade was fresh and tasted amazing.

Café1879 is part of the YMCA experience and although it's not one of my regular haunts as i don't tend to go to café's or eat out I have found it to be friendly and welcoming. There is a good selection of drinks and the menu has a good variety of choices. It's clean and well laid out and the staff are professional and efficient, and from what i have observed families with children of all ages are welcome.

I visited Cafe 1879 for the first time today as I was looking for somewhere quiet to feed and change my baby. The cafe is spacious and clean, and the staff were friendly. But the main reason I?ll be returning is because I had the best cheese scone I?ve ever eaten (along with a generous pot of tea). I would recommend Cafe 1879 to anyone looking for somewhere to grab a drink or bite to eat in North Shields.

We'd been trekking the Hadrians wall path and decided to finish at Tynemouth. With sore feet and empty bellies my wife spotted the YMCA. A spacious, clean, warm and tastefully decorated environment with friendly staff and great food, which is very well priced too. We'll worth a look if you are in the area. Faultless, hence 5*
