The location of this hotel is good, directly across from the train station. Check in was excellent: the staff member was nice and let me check in early.The hotel itself is getting shabby. Stains on rugs, chipped furnishings, missing plaques on the doors, etc.I was assigned suite 105, which is a long walk from reception up two flights of stairs. It had a view of a roof and there were air-conditioning units directly outside the window, and intermittently there was a lot of noise.On the second night of the stay, I arrived back at my room at around 11 pm. I found that both of my key cards were deactivated and I took the long walk back to reception. I explained the problem, and they handed back the cards without saying anything. They didn't apologise or explain why I couldn't access my room.I checked out early on Sunday, and the woman at reception wasn't friendly, didn't ask about my stay, seemed bothered I was there.The next time I'm in Newcastle I will choose a different property for my stay.

Currently having a great experience with the breakfast in bed room service at The County Hotel in Newcastle! The convenience and quality of in-room dining, rather that hauling my hung-over self to the dining room is much appreciated.Just ordered a full English breakfast with a side of pastries, pot of tea, fresh orange and toast, value for money!The staff are just lovely, and the rooms are large and comfortable.

Ideal hotel, locality fantastic, especially if arriving by train. Room was clean and a good size, some rooms are very small but this was great. Staff on reception friendly.Very enjoyable stay in Newcastle ?Walkability: Pretty much central for shopping,food and drinks. Great location.

The standard double room really isn't big enough for a couple - the bed is smaller than a normal double bed and right up against the wall, and there's hardly anywhere to put clothes (the small wardrobe had an ironing board, iron, safe and fan inside it, leaving little space for anything else).The room was far too hot - we turned the radiator off but still had to open the window slightly to let air in, which shouldn't be necessary in early March!Our towels were replaced each day, despite us leaving them hung on the towel rail to indicate we wanted reuse them. But used cups, glasses and coffee were not replaced.There were of small issues that suggested a lack of thought when fitting out the room: The cable on the hairdryer in the drawer was so short I had to sit on the floor to dry my hair. The tap was positioned so close to the edge of the sink that it was impossible to use without getting water everywhere. The wooden surround around the TV muffled the sound so much we had to have it on full volume to hear it.We were asked for a £150 security deposit on checking in - I've never been asked for a sum like that anywhere else. We've been told it will be returned automatically, but only after we queried it - the response from the receptionist was very dismissive.The location of the hotel is great - for the station and the city centre - but otherwise I wouldn't recommend it.

what a disappointment. I booked the reservation through booking.com and in arrival I am told to pay a £50 deposit, even though nowhere on the email or confirmaction did it say it so. the shower was scolding hot and burned my boyfriends back no matter how much he turned the water down! then when we check out they said the money will return in 5-10 working days , which is a bit much let's be honest , the transaction should only be pending out not actually taken. if I could give zero stars I would.
