Every city could do with a Baltic.

Another enjoyable visit to The Baltic today.
Fav was the Franki Raffles photography exhibition which was great, very interesting work by a very committed talented woman well worth viewing.
The pelvic sculpture Hannah Perry made a strong statement and the Fenwick's exhibition included a good selection of paintings and images.
We also had some lovely food in the cafe - much improved since our last visit. Trout bagel, tuna toasties, blondie and coffees were all lovely and fresh at very reasonable price.
Great helpful and friendly staff and service in comfortable airy space. We look fwd to returning soon x
Two new great exhibitions on at the mo (April 2023)
Black and white photography by Chris Killip (including Gateshead, Byker and North Tyneside)
And an amazing exhibition called the Procession by Hew Locke which I loved - great video too!
Would deffo recommend a visit ???x

I only viewed the Galleries.
Entry is free but donations welcome.
I enjoyed the Disability exhibition as this is a topic that hardly happens.
Some of the amateur art work was great; & adult content section.
There is so much space in this Gallery, and could be better used.
The lift and views were amazing.
As a wheelchair user the Gallery was disabled friendly!
There are disabled bays on south shore road on the side of the Baltic Art Gallery.

Liked this. An eclectic range of exhibits. Frankie Raffles photography exhibit particularly good. Worth an hour for sure and free with a donation. Excellent views as well as exhibits with a nice coffee shop which has access to a roof terrace. The access isn't obvious but either ask the staff or go up the stairs in the corner of the coffee shop.

+:
stunning building and view
nice space for kids
very interesting visit about the kittiwakes
-:
I assume they struggle to attract high profile artists?
I also booked a bday party a few years ago and, in spite of the amazing kid space, it was not great at all (in fact I just remember now I never got the video).
All in all, a nice place to visit for the building and the view or if you have children but don?t get your hopes too high if you have art expectations !

A great convention centre that has lots of large rooms for presenting and displaying in. There are also some incredible views from here.

Wanted to look around the Baltic Centre, was given a schedule of events on arrival and informed there was a guided tour at 11. It was fascinating. Really a great experience and Alisha was so informative and passionate about the events and work behind the scenes. Fantastic views and loved the kittiwakes nesting just a few feet away from the viewing platform. So many things for the children to get involved in And it's free entry!

I went there with my college tour in November, and it was my first time visiting an art gallery. I must say, all the artworks were beautiful. I encountered captivating exhibitions like Project Art Works: Residential and Michael Rakowitz?s The Waiting Gardens of the North. Each offered a unique perspective and left an indelible impression on my mind.

Overall, an enjoyable experience. However, I have to give one star on principle due to the inclusion of AI art in one of the exhibits- for shame. Typing a prompt into a search bar does not make you a creative. I wonder how many promising submissions by artists were turned down in favour of slop churned out by an algorithm that scrapes data from real artists without consent. The theming of the piece was shallow, and it jumped out from a mile away as AI.

Free entry. Quiet with lovely views of the city. Some good artwork/ photos from years gone by.Cafe, WCs and children's play areas are all. onsite. It's worth a visit, as some of the artwork can be well worth a view.

Visiting the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art was a delightful experience! With its six floors offering diverse attractions, there's something for everyone. From thought-provoking art installations to a vibrant bar on the top floor, surrounded by stunning views. The fourth floor is a green oasis with plants and crops, while the second floor is perfect for kids, featuring a library and interactive exhibits. The ground floor boasts charming shops and captivating lighting. Overall, a must-visit destination for an enriching half-day outing with loved ones!
