The conversion into a museum made this old industrial building a beautifully maintained structure. At night also nicely illuminated, together with next door Millennium Bridge.

At least it's free...But the view is worth it!The content, less so.

The Baltic gives me mixed feelings as an art space. On the one hand it's an excellent exhibition space, professionally run and well positioned in the city. But on the other hand it does have it's flaws. The exhibition spaces are huge, cavernous, and the art within them often loses significance because of it. The spectacular scale of the structure makes each new work a five minute walk to reach. The spaces should be better divided up, and filled with greater care and focus. There simply isn't enough art on show to justify the voluminous venue, and what there is seems randomly dropped without any concentrated curation. Perhaps the curators are above scrutiny. The Baltic is also a very "woke" gallery. Possibly more so than any other in the UK. Virtually every exhibition is a forced addition to their gender and multiculturalism quotas. This is admirable in some ways, as it gives voices to the voiceless, but it also becomes tiresome, as the art becomes difficult to relate to. Something is lost because of this over indulgence in minority pleasing, and that is reflected in the relatively poor footfall to this vast institution. It's also a sad shame that there has been no real attempt made to capitalise on the venue locally. There are virtually no surrounding attractions for the visitor, no restaurants, no string of shops leading up to the gallery. The Baltic stands autonomous and rather lonely. You just get the art and then a long walk back to the city.Yes, a mixed experience. The Baltic gallery lives up to it's name. Cold, distant, culturally alien but at least it's well run.

Always some great and thought provoking installations. Not to mention great views of Newcastle. The gift shop is also really good!

I?ve visited the Baltic many times over the years and always been impressed by the fact that it is free entry to see amazing exhibitions and to get breathtaking view across the river and bridges.Today, the exhibition which impressed me the most was a collection of the work produced during the Project Arts Work Residential. The works are so vivid and full of energy and life!None of this pieces are credited or titled in the exhibition so if you do go to view ask for a catalogue as the artists, titles and mediums are listed.Use the lifts if you want to save your legs and start at the top of the building then work your way down.

This was a fascinating art museum to visit, beginning with a highly creative project on the first floor! The paintings show different meanings and form settings magnificently, gaming room is retro where some can even be played. Higher up focuses on nature, showcasing beautiful plants and using them to replicate scenery including a viaduct!

I also come to see the new exhibitions and the the ones I have seen before every 1-2 months and there is always something fascinating, beautiful and something to learn! This institution has allowed me to really understand our region better and we should all be grateful for it.My experience with the staff has always been positive. At times it is exceptional. I remember one day last year I went and each room I walked into they would offer to explain the exhibition to me and we would have a really nice insightful conversation where I could on to have a look on my pwn accord without worry. They have always been knowledgeable, passionate and respectful. One of my fave things to do in Newcastle!

I have been to this place many times. It?s free of charge. There are exhibit changes seasonally. The first floor has an art/bookshop which sells a lot of niche or pop art. The first floor sometimes has an art exhibit, and other times has a photography exhibit. The second and third floors are very small and usually very average. The fourth floor usually is the best, they either have a personal artist exhibit or a theme-oriented exhibit. The fifth floor is the view box for the fourth floor. Not worth going unless you want to see the exhibit from a higher point of view. The top floor has a balcony where you can see seagulls. Strongly suggest checking the exhibit before you go, in case you don?t like it and get disappointed. Overall it is the best modern art gallery in the Northeast. Still recommended it.
