What a wonderful dinner we had at the Windmill! Artisan bread with a pesto sauce that really needs to become a main dish over pasta, halloumi fries with a sweet chili sauce that was dish-licking good were our starters. My companion had the hake as his main course, while I chose the beef and malbec pie. Both were delicious, as were the sides - green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy for me, a corn medley for my friend. We washed it all down with a buttery smooth Chilean Shiraz.
Service was also excellent: Daisy W., Courtney and Helena were warm, welcoming and attentive without being intrusive.
I would highly recommend this restaurant, and I look forward to eating there on a future trip to the UK!

Firstly, the staff and service were excellent. The food, however, was mediocre at best.
5/5 for service. 1/5 for starters. 2/5 for mains. 4/5 for dessert. Overall 3/5.
The shared artisan breads were 4 slices of toast (perhaps the bread was going stale?) with about enough butter for 1 slice!
Starters.
The sauté mushrooms were a weird slimly concoction of over tough, under seasoned small mushrooms, which I had to send back. I just couldn?t eat them. The replacement carrot and coriander soup was quite nice, but with some unexplained fatty globules (a bit like large lumps of soft cream, or butter, or possibly cheese?) floating in it. I did ask what they were, but didn?t get an answer. The parsnip crisps were nice but somewhat spoiled by going soggy in the soup. I feel the chef had prioritised the looks of the starters over taste!
Mains.
I had the 4 cheese and mushroom pizza. It was quite large and tasted really nice. However, the cheese taste became overpowering and you would really have to like cheese a lot as there was no counterpoint of tomato to balance out the taste. I don?t know why there was no traditional tomato passata on the base ( perhaps they forgot it?). The mushrooms and spinach were few and not enough to balance out the overwhelming cheese flavour. But, I did enjoy it.
Dessert.
The mini crème brûlée was very nice (but not chocolate as stated on the menu). The accompanying cup of coffee was very good, but only a half sized cup - which was disappointing! I wished I had ordered the full size versions of both.
The prices, for what you actually get, are very expensive and poor value for money. We won?t be going back. I really feel that you can get a much better meal at many other restaurants in the area at at much better prices.

We had Sunday lunch and the food was excellent but the stand out was the young waiter who served us, he was excellent, really friendly with a huge smile. A real asset to the business, well done.

We had a brilliant meal here on Christmas Day. There were 11 in our group, 5 kids, the service was friendly and quick. We didn?t feel rushed at all and we will definitely be looking to book next year again. The food was also delicious!

The pub itself is welcoming and a lively fire greeted us but what a let down the staff are. Uninterested, rarely a smile, slow and clearly not trained or monitored in terms of their customer service. Food was average but I would never return as service was so poor.

Was here with my partner for my birthday meal 12/12. Staff very helpful young lad he served us had been there 4 years was very helpful . The meal although nice we had calf?s liver and lamb was not value for money , positions very small and extras veg etc very expensive. We had desert chocolate bomb which was delicious the cheeseboard was adequate though the grapes were well passed their best and personally think butter should be served with this course though I didn?t ask for some. decor sad and there looked like unhoovered mess on the floor. Little things but they add up. However service excellent time of service excellent food good but not brilliant and poor value for money in struggling times.

I visited with a friend for lunch, this was my first visit to The Windmill. I ordered from the set menu, 2 courses. My starter was mushrooms which were delicious, so delicious that I I could have had more. My main course was the chicken burger with fries which was tasty. My friend ordered prawns as a starter and the fish and chips as the main course. She commented that her food was good. I thought the 2 course set menu was a good price, I think it was £18.50. The staff were friendly and efficient. I thought the pub decor was lovely and very welcoming. Most of the tables were full so there was a good atmosphere. My only negative was at times I felt chilly, but I wondered if the main door of the pub had been left open as I knew the radiator near me was working. I would highly recommend and I know I will return

Visited on a Sunday afternoon. There is a separate vegan menu available but unfortunately no vegan option on the sunday roast menu. There were 3 vegan mains on the menu - a salad bowl, a curry and a burger. The salad bowl was sold out which the staff member was very apologwtic about. The curry tasted nice although lacked creaminess as it didn't have any coconut milk/cream in the sauce. We had 2 portions on our table and the vegetables served in each portion was wildly different. There were multiple desserts on the vegan menu (yay!) And the crumble was delicious.

I?m not sure if this restaurant has ever been good but I and my friends won?t be going there again we gave it another go but waited 35 minutes for soup when it came it was cold and to go back another 10 mins then the mains was very average but as we waited so long and told there was a large table of people that they had preference!!! You are a restaurant!!! When asked for the bill and said we were disappointed with food and service he gave us a one free cup of coffee!! Never again
