New owners really lovely and welcoming have recently taken over The Bakery, considering they have had to take over from someone who was completely incompetent and left the business in a mess & debt, so to be saved by these lovely people is a blessing for the village and we will fully support them as we love ?The Bakery?.
The previous manager has made a review on here of ?RUBBISH? so please ignore as this as its not true, as he hasn?t been involved after he?s ?done a runner? in April 2025. Just green eyed envy!
Highly recommend going here as it really is a lovely restaurant with amazing choices of beverages and food. Wish the new owners the best of luck and Will see you very soon.

Wonderful welcome when we arrived exhausted from our trip.
Host was exceptional. She couldn?t do more for us. Ensured we had everything we needed including lending me a charging lead for my phone and bringing up a drink to our room and brought up our suitcases. Both my sister and I were slightly compromised as I was in recovery from an op and my sister had a leg injury. We felt absolutely taken care of and she even booked out table in the Old Ship for supper. Thx The Bakery, we will be back !

Pay no attention to any recent negative reviews!
This hotel has recently undergone a change in management, very much for the better.
With a charming location in a lovely, quaint village, comfortable rooms and a calm & welcoming ambience, staying here this weekend was a real treat. Whilst the restaurant is currently closed for refurbishment, there are plenty of local alternative on offer for dinner and they are still able to offer a really delicious breakfast (one of the nicest I've had in any hotel).
The best thing about this hotel are the new management, who really are incredibly welcoming and accomodating. They are working extremely hard and have already brought the hotel up to a really high standard. I would gladly recommend a stay here to anyone.

Poor AVOID - listed as 3 star, the rooms are 2 star at best.
Overpriced.
- TV not working - it was an aerial TV bodged into a satellite socket in the wall - no wonder it didn't pick up any stations. Needs a satellite box at least.
- Shower poor & falling apart, handle falling off, door tracks broken, duct tape holding up parts, floor felt like it would give way if you stood in the wrong spot.
- Electrics to the room kettle highly dodgy, bare outer insulation on the extension strip.
- Wind whistling through the corridor from a missing ceiling / loft access hatch.
Find some where else IMHO - this place is ok on the surface, but the rooms are rough and breakfast no better!
VERY poor value for money, with, in hindsight, too many 10 out of 10 reviews from anonymous posters. :(
Booking.com not taking more reservations - I guess thats to stop the bad reviews?
(Stayed tail end of September)
Rooms: Decoration is fine on the surface, dangerous electrics and broken shower lets it down.
Safety: Watch out for unsupported shower floor and plug in heaters.
Food and drinks: Walked away from breakfast - the so called poached eggs were effectively boiled in vinegar. The server lifted toast from the plate in front of my wife for some reason and took it away.
They tried - but the food was inedible.

Went here for a meal with my wife and was looking forward to it given the reviews. However, the service is way below par, we ordered a bottle of wine and it was just plonked on the table - not even opened - and the food is ?meh? at best (the best part was the bread and butter). We ordered the lamb and it was very tough (it offered me outside for a fight twice, that?s how tough it was!).
It?s a shame because it?s in a lovely area but for £92 for a bottle of wine and 2 main courses (plus a few bits of bread) I would expect much better.

Room was fine as was the food, staff friendly enough but could do with some basic training! Location was OK in pleasant village.

I've never felt more welcomed or treated so well in a restaurant. The owner is such an amazing, kind soul.
