?The Star Inn is a charming pub in the picturesque village of Lingfield. The pub itself is very inviting, and the village is lovely to walk around. We we're visiting the area for a family wedding.
We stayed in one of the external rooms, which covered all the basic necessities for our stay. It was, however, smaller than the photo online suggested. This, I presume, was because they used room 3 for the photos, which is considerably larger than rooms 1 and 2 which our party were in.
?The breakfast is a set price of £13.95. The full English was very tasty and well worth the money. However, my son, only wanted a sausage sandwich, which while very nice, certainly wasn't worth almost £14.
?The worst part of our stay was being woken up at 7 a.m. on the Friday, the morning after the wedding, by an absolutely horrendous noise. It was the deafening crash of hundreds of glass bottles smashing against each other as they were poured into a refuse truck about 10 meters from our door. The noise was so loud it caused ringing in our ears, and it was a truly jarring way to start the morning. But this was not a single occurrence. There were at least three containers emptied in to the refuse truck. This was then followed by several other vehicles of various sizes pulling up over the next 40 minutes with various deliveries.
This was an unfortunate end to an otherwise pleasant stay and left us with an overall negative view of the Star Inn

Lovely lunch today with 3 friends. The menu was extensive and interesting. The portions very generous, delicious, fairly priced and great value. Service excellent. All in very pleasant environment. Thank you

The Star Inn, Lingfield ? a delightful, centuries-old coaching inn with roots in the village?s past and the kind of worn-timber charm you don?t find everywhere. In a sentence: history and character are everywhere ? low beams, creaky floorboards and an inviting, cosy atmosphere that instantly feels authentic.
Lonely Traveler Productions popped in for a meal and came away thrilled. The food was excellent ? seasonal, well-cooked dishes presented with care, generous portions and a comforting, homey flavour that matched the pub?s character. Service was warm and attentive, and the room (complete with period features and a welcoming glow) made the whole evening feel special. It was an absolute pleasure to find a place like this ? a stunning old pub that made our visit exciting and memorable. Highly recommended for anyone looking for good food in a truly atmospheric setting.

Lovely pub in a beautiful location. Great food and many options Coeliacs or those with Gluten sensitivity.

Can on a Friday evening for dinner and there was a children? party or something on. The queue for service at the bar was ridiculous, not the staff?s fault, quite obviously miss management, not enough staff for what was obviously going to be a busy period. Will think twice now about returning. Shame because otherwise it?s a great pub.

Restaurant is good. Soft drinks a bit limited, food excellent and reasonably priced.

Came in at around 4pm on a Saturday. Was busy as the sun was out but the pub was seriously understaffed. Queued at the bar for almost 20 minutes before giving up and leaving. Won't be coming back in a hurry. The setup at this pub has huge potential but until they sort the staffing out I can imagine people will vote with their feet. I know that this will be the case with most of the people I stood at the bar with today watching two people struggle.

Absolutely fantastic place, we stayed for 2 nights. Perfect for exploring the area and there is a public footpath right near the pub. We went for a 5 mile walk.

The Star used to be a good place to go before the new owners took over. Four of us have just had lunch there spending around £100. We ordered drinks at the bar on arrival and sat down at a table opposite the bar. There was only one person behind the bar so it took a while. The staff were totally disinterested in us and we waited fifteen minutes before I had to actually find someone to come and take our order. Two of us had linguine but had to ask for a spoon to eat it with as just a knife and fork were supplied. We ordered desert and coffees but had to ask for sugar to be supplied. We were there for 2.5 hours and throughout our stay there were two young boys from an adjacent table in the bar area running and screaming back and forth through all the bar areas while their parents completely ignored them. I asked one of the staff as we left what their policy was on children disturbing the other customers and he replied with a could not care less shrug that he hadn't really noticed a problem. No apology. So clearly the Star doesn't encourage return customers because we will not be going back.

I ordered a rare steak, this is about as rare as a pigeon in the city. I'm still going to eat it because I am damn hungry.
