Free admission to The Longshed to see the amazing full size replica of the Anglo Saxon burial ship that was found at Sutton Hoo( just across the other side of the River Deben, now National trust property). This experimental archaeology project is being tackled by a group of ( mostly) volunteers using axes and other basic tools. Really important project, will be fascinating to revisit to see how it progresses.

They are building a full-size copy of the Sutton Hoo long ship, from Oak trees split with wedges and which are cut into planks using traditional Saxon methods. This is open to the to the public. It is absolutely stunning

Very good site. But we were looked down on. Man was there with people otherwise of roaped Orr area giving them a talk. Man from our part asked if we could get a talk as well. He was told NO you are public which are not allowed through here. No way for support. Everyone was disappointed to be told you are not getting any information as you are (common public)

Excellent project, re-creating the Anglo Saxon ship found at Sutton Hoo. Volunteers obviously keen - busy answering questions. Bit too busy, maybe one or two more on duty if possible as I found it impossible to speak to one due to so many people in front of me speaking to them. Upstairs a wonderful 'tapestry' of textile panels relating to the finds at Sutton Hoo.

What they are doing here is truly amazing. They are reconstructing the Anglo saxon boat found in excavations at Sutton hoo. Local people have also made fantastic tapestries depicting local life etc absolutely well worth a visit

Fantastic project to construct and launch a Saxon longboat based on the one found at Sutton Hoo. Extremely interesting and detailed chat with one of the staff members. He explained the techniques and showed examples of the tools used all while work is carrying on in the background. The project is sticking as closely as possible to the tools and construction methods used around 600 ad. Free to enter and worthy of a donation.

The museum is really a workshop in which a longboat is being built. It's great to get so close to the boat and to see the construction. The staff are helpful. I am looking forward to the ship being launched possibly in spring 2024. Visit while you can to see this Anglo Saxon marvel being built by the side of the river where our ancestors sailed up to discover a new life.
