What a fabulous location this country hotel in Suffolk is situated in ?? ? from the moment we arrived to the moment we left 3 days later it was a lovely experience and a very memorable one .From the time we checked in and throughout or stay we hade a very enjoyable time, the staff from front of house to the cleaning service and all those individuals in between involved in the Daily running of this Hotel were very helpful friendly and Courteous. The hotel first impressions were Very good despite the hotel was undergoing a total exterior make over. (Our Visit 11.03.24 ) I was told this would be completely finished in the very near future and all finished in time for the upcoming 2024 season .Check in process was absolutely fine .. ?we love a smiling face to greet us ? Megan ? ..Our room was fine , clean and fresh with a coffee machine with complimentary biscuits etc .. room also has Tv and wifi (Good strength in room ) with a beautiful view overlooking the river and the meadows .Service was very good including any conversations and questions (sorry for asking so many) I had with staffing in the bar restaurant and resection area .Restaurant service was very good even under unexpected circumstances, and the food was above average and indeed excellent ? and with impressive views of the mill wheel internally and pond externally it made it very enjoyable, we also enjoyed one evening meal within our visit again it was excellent.Thank you all and yes you will be seeing us again.Next time in mass ?TjxMr ward .

Stayed a few times at this hotel. The last time we stayed they have removed the facility to register a card to your room and pay your bill on departure. So you now have lists of receipts at the end of your stay and not one final bill on check out!

Beautiful views from the hotel. If you like nature and walking this is a good hotel to stay and relax. Dog friendly and delicious coffee with amazing terrace panorama. Short walk to town centre. Will come back!

Very disappointed with the cleanliness in the room and public toilet.Mound in the shower and dirt in the shower door. Water was constantly running in the wc which was not attended to after we reported it.The public toilet door frames were filthy.Rooms: Look out for cleanliness in the shower cubicles.Food & drinks: We chose to eat in the bar. Selected from the menu but told one choice was not available. On returning minutes later with our option we were told the first was available. The fish meal I had was only okay but expensive.Noteworthy details: If you are looking to stay with this hotel group then go 30 minutes away to The George hotel in Colchester. We did and it was really really good. Great rooms, bar, restaurant and staff.

This hotel has reasonable rooms, and is well located in Sudbury, only a 10 minute walk or so from the town centre. There's also ample parking. I stayed in a cottage/annex next to the hotel's main building. However, there are a few issues. The room had a double/king bed, and no bedside light, just stud lighting which shone directly into your eyes when you lay down. Wouldn't one perhaps expect a bedside lamp? Plus points to the bathroom, which had a bath and was very large. Then, shortly after I arrived on Sunday 18th, evening, around 10 police and several police cars showed up in the area, knocking on the door of the room next to mine!I went to the check-in desk, where I asked if everything was OK - and the check-in desk staff seemed somewhat dismissive of my concern, saying they couldn't say anything. Perhaps a "I'm very sorry for the disturbance, the police have the matter at hand" would not go amiss!I had dinner at the restaurant, which had very low ceilings - not surprising given the age of the building. Although it's not a big issue, the restaurant was lit up bright like a dentist's waiting room! Not a big issue, but very bright bulbs on low ceilings don't create a restful atmosphere in a reasonably upscale restaurant. For dinner I had a Chinese-style roast pork, pictured, although the portion was quite small. I found out later the menu said it was about 600 calories. Considering the average adult needs about 2,000 calories a day, this seems badly proportioned - being roast pork, it wasn't exactly labelled as a 'light bite'!For breakfast, the coffee was served from several large metal canisters, and the plates were scalding hot to touch, meaning diners had to pick up their plate with a cloth napkin! The food was ok, except they kept running out of breakfast items such as sausages, eggs, etc, which led to long wait times.Overall, a three-star experience. More thought put into the menu portion sizes, breakfast, and overall lighting would be much appreciated.

Always come here for birthdays for afternoon tea. Great selection of sandwich's / cakes although wish there was a bit more savoury things, due to my personal preference. Great gluten free options

We had an enjoyable 3 nights at the Mill Hotel. Bedroom was comfortable, warm, tastefully decorated. Lots of hot water, large white towels, coffee machine. Lovely views over the meadows and Mill pond. Staff were lovely. Food is good, caters for vegetarians with various choices.

Sprawling hotel full of character. We sat in the bar area with a fabulous view over water meadows in front of us, the old mill wheel revolving slowly behind us and a roaring fire to one side. The brunch was very good, you can even design your own using the menu extras. Attentive service too. 10% discount if you download their app to order - QR codes are on each table (nb. we didn?t notice this until after ordering, so haven?t tried it)

It is a lovely hotel in a lovely setting. We booked via travelzoo and that often means being put in the outer edges. We were put in a room I'm the cottage which could have been signed and numbered more clearly. Also as have sight problems would have been usefuk to have signs warning to the small steps inside. Room was small, probably suited to a single person bit comfortable, clean and warm. Staff very friendly and breakfast was excellent.Walkability: Short walk into Sudbury Town.

We came here yesterday for a family festive lunch and it was very disappointing. We were a large table of 13 but the service was very bad. There was lots of mistakes with the food (kids mains brought out with starter, missing one persons main, missing two peoples desserts after already waiting for over 45 minutes for them, tea/coffee without any cups, vegan mince pies were brought out with their desserts but everyone elses were much later, no checking if eveything was ok during the meal). The desserts were very disappointing too, the apple crumble was full of core and the crumble very powdery and tasteless and the white chocolate mousse that came later than everyone elses dessert i think they may have just thrown something random together there and then as it was inedible and looked very poorly presented. There was about 5 different members of staff during the meal that served us and so no one really seemed to care. We have been here before and always found it good so this was a shame and has put us of returning. They ask for all the money in advance probably because they know how bad it is and you would refuse to pay for some things like the desserts.
