Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Very pleased to see a different menu from my visit yesterday as I usually choose fish so cod yesterday and sea bass today. Goof flavours and well cooked. My favourite place in Long Melford

When we were told our room was on the 2nd floor we were not too impressed. (I had mentioned on booking that my wife is awaiting a hip replacement) but staff helped with our baggage and it was a beautiful room. A welcoming landlady and a tremendous snug bar. Unfortunately the wait for a cooked breakfast on the first day (almost half an hour) spoiled the whole visit. Otherwise all was good - the bath does need a non-slip bath mat though!

Lovely food, friendly staff, but the room let the overall experience down.Rooms: The cosy room is too cosy!! Only room for 1 really, or maybe if it?s just one night it may be okay.

The view from room 2 at the Black Lion looking down over the village green towards Melford Hall (National Trust) is one of the best we have seen from any hotel. England at its finest. The food at the Black Lion is simply amazing and it is accompanied by a fine selection of wines and beers.Service is great and the staff are very friendly.

Had a valentines dinner at the Black Lion, we had never been before, very lovely inside with grandiose decor a lovely menu with some good veggie options. Fabulous wine list and the food was delicious. We were served by Karina who was lovely and tentative and very easy to get along with and she also had food knowledge of the food on offer. Didn't stay at hotel so couldn't comment! Thank you Black Lion Hotel!

A great old pub. We popped in for Sunday lunch and had beef and pork. It was pretty good food and excellent service. The atmosphere was good. I just wish the crumble was more traditional (more like stewed apples with granola on top). I'd also liked to have learnt more about the history of the pub, but couldn't seem to find any information on Google. I'd definitely go back and recommend Sunday lunch to anyone.Food & drinks: Great!

We were a table of 3 and I don?t think any of us would hurry back to have a meal there again. I loved the roaring fire as we arrived but the food and drinks were not as good as one might expect from such a respectable establishment. Very disappointing as we were all very much looking forward to the meal at the Black Lion in Melford.

Food is nice but inconsistent quality and the prices are now as high as Scutchers Restaurant close by and I know which I'd rather spend the money in. Some of the staff need a bit of training and bar service can be slow if they don't adapt to the number of customers in the bar. They cater for tourists due to their situation on the nicest village green in Suffolk so they can get away with the prices to a certain extent but locals I have spoken to generally try it once or twice and then give up. Shame really, it has the makings of a great place
