I just had a bad experience trying to open an account in person in the Sudbury branch.
The person at the desk refused to accept a letter from my current bank as proof of address, as it wasn?t a bank statement. Fair enough.
However, when I offered to go to the branch next door to get a statement showing my address, I was told it wouldn?t be valid because it will be a duplicate and it needed to be mailed.
I explained that I've got all my services and utilities paperless, and the bank statement should be okay. Despite this, the staff insisted that for proof of address to be valid, it must physically arrive by mail to my letterbox.
That said, I?m not giving fewer stars because when I called to complain, the person I spoke to listened to my concerns and connected me with an operator who was able to open the account for me over the phone, without requiring mailed bank statements to my letterbox.

We are new to the area, from now being in "a permanent resident position". As such we have had to move money into the area, hence our 3 visits to Nationwide Building Society in Sudbury. We found, on each of our visits, all the staff we met have been friendly to outstanding. All of our visits have required to be handled by individual staff members, so after speaking to the counter staff we have had to wait until someone is available, (which is much better than the 2 banks we have visited in the locality who have said we must book an appointment, and that the earliest one being weeks away!) Our first visit, after a short wait, we were seen by the branch manager who was very friendly, helpful and explained and assisted us with how to do what we wanted too do. Our second visit was much like the first only this time it was with a female staff member, yesterday, we had a slightly longer wait to be seen and there was no more seating available (and constraints on available floor space, likely prohibits more chairs), we could have returned later, but we decided to stand and wait. After 10/15 minutes we were seen by a male member of staff, he was extremely good as he was already helping 2 other parties with their problems or queries, this man went from clients to clients helping everyone with their individual items, well done to all staff we have met at this branch. I am qualified to pass my judgement as I have been employed in the education sector for 35 years delivering and assessing up to NVQ level 6 so thank you to all of the staff, Paul Ach-------

A big thanks to the manager of the Sudbury branch. This gentleman provided an exceptional level of service to our family today, guiding us through the bereavement process, and personally assisting in raising a cheque for funeral expenses. It is so refreshing to see a branch manager sitting with customers and really making a difference at a difficult time. Absolutely outstanding, thank you.

Sudbury Nationwide staff are the best you could ever have. Pure gold. They treat you with respect even when you haven't got a clue what you are doing. I could not have coped over the last few years being widowed without them.

Tried to put some money in a savings account today but I was not allowed in told by the woman on the door it wasn't an emergency. Like she would know. Seriously considering closing the account.
