While the pubs location itself and service were okay - the food was just not that good to be honest and probably worse than I could knock up myself. Shame - we had meant to go back but went elsewhere later that week.

Only there for 1 night will be back. 2 min walk to beach.

Food was very mediocre at best, went for a Sunday roast, seemed very mass produced as service was circa ten minutes.
Don?t agree with paying a 10% service charge when you have to order your food at the bar. Drinks good, shame as the westleton crown was a superb experience.

We stayed at The Ship for 2 nights, a couple of weekends ago. The location was nice, with a quiet beach within 5 minutes walk.
The room and the staff were great, very friendly and welcoming, dogs are also welcome, which was one of the reasons that we booked here originally.
The only minor issue that I had, was the lack of available parking onsite, although there was parking available on the street outside.
We mostly went into nearby Southwold during the day, which is only about 20 minutes drive away.
Our evenings were spent in the bar, where I discovered Hawkstone Cider. Now all I need to do is find somewhere local to me that sells it!

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place, despite its beautiful location... firstly, we attempted to make an online booking, however we were only able to book for up to 9 people, I phoned up shortly after making the booking, and said it was more likely to be around 12, they said that would be fine. When we arrived, the staff appeared very annoyed by our presence. Huffing, puffing, and eye rolling like we were an incredible inconvenience to them. We were put on a table, and then moved. Again with much huffing and visible frustration.
We were then put into a lovely looking room, however the service was quite simply shocking. Shortly after settling into the room, a blond lady came in, barking at us, demanding our drinks order. We were shocked by how she spoke towards us. She later came back again and demanded our menu choices, again loudly and directly barking at us all - clearly we were an incredible inconvenience to her, and she wanted to make that very clear to all of us. I have never experienced treatment like it, and truly hope she doesn?t treat all customers in this way.
We were all shocked at how unwelcome we were made to feel, for almost the entire time that we were there. Customers can be frustrating we get that - especially a large group, but treating customers in the way we were treated and made to feel, is absolutely not okay.
We had also booked a room here for the night, if we hadn?t have already paid for it before arriving then we would have just left and gone home - we had never experienced anything like it, and felt so uncomfortable staying. We were made to feel so uncomfortable, and like we were such inconveniences - despite spending upwards of £1000 with them that day (meal for 12, room for the night), not that the amount we spent should matter.
We will never go back.

The Ship is a very nice village pub with accommodation by the sea, we stayed 3 nights. Quite small inside with a large garden, decent drink choices and short menu. Food standard is quite variable - had fish and chips the first night, chips were soggy and fish had a lot of bones but was otherwise tasty, burger and fries was very nice, sea bass excellent. Breakfast was also variable, Anglian breakfast one day was lightly cooked but the poached egg was more like hard boiled, the next day very much over cooked with the mushroom like a piece of leather, eggs royale perfect. The staff were mostly friendly and helpful apart from the middle aged guy with the beard who was very gruff and unfriendly. The room was pretty decent but looking a bit tired. On our last night we encountered the Dunwich Dynamo overnight bike race that woke us at 2am and kept us awake for the rest of the night, we were told a week in advance but I would question why we were not told at the time of booking? And why could they not be contained in the back garden. Overall a pleasant stay but given the price point would expect better.

Didn?t stay here at The Ship, just came through on our return walk to Southwold, was rather hot and bothered when we arrived and was overwhelmed when we came in as the rooms are in and out rooms and wished we could?ve received some assistance and shown to a seat after I told the lady we already had walked around and was struggling? very confused with the prices? we had white bait (£7.50) + tomato and basil (£9) + fish and chips (£19), x1 coke and x1 aspals and the cost came to £46? I?ve been reading the comments about a service charged added but didn?t receive service as ordered at the bar, and no one came to ask how our meal was? left rather disappointed! Hubby had a salad with his fish and chips which came drenched in dressing so he didn?t eat it most of it and had maybe 12 chips? And large haddock? No that was definitely a small! I usually only have good things to say when reviewing restaurants but this place really misses the mark for us! Prices elevated and portions small! The building is lovely and well decorated. Dog friendly. Paid before we ate and won?t be returning.

Used to be a lot better, sadly seems to have declined significantly in last 18 months. Food is incredibly over priced - £21 for a sharing ploughmans which is a very small portion of ham and cheese with some side salad - used to be much better with a pork pie, proper serving of bread etc.
Staff pretty off hand too, not bothering to bring out side plates for sharing dishes and doing their best to avoid coming in contact with customers.
Sad, used to be much better, hope they get their act together!

The location is almost perfect. The service was friendly and rapid. However, the food was well below par, we expected much more quality for the price. The fish platter was cheap and nasty with lots of bread, the duck caeser salad was atrocious, hardly any cheese, minimal sauce...a 5 year old could of done better. The cod was ok and plentiful but the chips were a very dark brown, and so many flies. The crab linguini was ok as was the burger. The beer was good. I don't imagine we will eat here again.
