A great village pub, with excellent food and quick service. Even with not having booked, we were seated immediately! Well done!

Service was nice and friendly. The selection of real ales in the outside bar was only 2 but was ok. The food was very average and over priced.

I pre-booked a buffet lunch for 50 people. I was disappointed with the amount and the lack of variety of food. There was an outside bar run by two young people who appeared to be very inexperienced, and bar service was very slow.

We both had the fish and chips which all came out piping hot and was delicious. However we felt the bar staff weren?t particularly dynamic, and they let the experience down. Firstly you have to order at the bar (that?s ok) but they ask for a tip (or service charge up front!!) This got my back up as I thought it a bloody cheek, especially since we?re having to wait and order at the bar!! You can ask for it to re refunded after the meal though, really!
The redemption of a decent meal took the sting out of this, but still the service was poor as we had to go up to the bar again (after some significant time) to request the table be cleared. They weren?t busy so no excuses!

Nice pub by the seaside

A lovely 400-500 year old pub just yards from the quay at Orford and opposite the main car park. It has a lovely, large garden overlooking fields at the back and a large covered area and separate outside bar. The building looks like it was made up of 3 or 4 original cottages decades (if not centuries) ago so the bar rooms are all higgledy-piggledy! Very quaint, very original, very British Pub! The bedrooms are the same. I'm 6' tall and bashed my head on the loo door a few times in the dark! But you don't stay in an old Inn like this for it's modern features - find a Travelodge if that's what you want! The staff are great - nothing too much trouble, really pleasant and friendly. The breakfast is also excellent - lovely full cooked, or a massive portion of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, etc. GF is also available on request. All-in-all, a lovely 2 night stay there. Thanks!

If you are going to preemptively add a service charge, at least try to bring out the meals at the same time.
After spending £50 on two meals, I was disappointed to have one meal forgotten. After waiting for 15 mins I chased it up and had it brought out cold, obviously having been left on the side for some time.
The pan fried bass was the size of a rollmop. Very disappointing.

£10 for a pint and a half. Captive overpriced market. Expect £7 a pint here July 2025.

Stopped in for a quick lunch on a Sunday - nice pub but tills were mega slow, the orders got messed up, the food was average at best and the prices were very high considering what you got for it.

Went this afternoon and staff disinterested to say the least. Food was below average , beer flat and overall not a good experience. Will not be returning

Had a very enjoyable weekend break at the Jolly Sailor. A very good experience which I would recommend to anyone. Excellent kitchen and helpful friendly staff. A great base from which to tour the area.
