On the 19th April 2025 we were visiting aldeburgh with friends as we had heard aldeburgh were famous for their fish and chips. The 4 of us then went into the upper deck diner for our lunch sat down, we all ordered the medium cod and chips and was so looking forward to our meal. Med cod and chips x 4 cost us a total of £ 59.60 with the drinks being extra etc etc , well I have to say the cod which we were all served was very very disappointing, it was much smaller than we were expecting, the batter was dark in colour and it was dry and crunchy and tasteless and was mainly batter and what little cod in side the batter was full of big bones, I can honestly say it was the worst fish and chips meal we had ever ordered when out. We were all so very disappointed with our meal as it didn't feel like the meals were cooked to order as the meal were not very hot at all, I have to say the whole meal tasted like the fish may have been pre cooked then put into a hot oven to keep it warm until it was ordered, the same with the chips. Very disappointing indeed and We certainly won't be returning to the upper deck diner again.

Brilliant little restaurant room above one of the delicious fish and chips shops. The service here is relaxed and kind and the food so good we. One back year after year.

On Friday 11th October, my wife and me were looking forward to our fish and chips at lunchtime. We ordered 2 medium haddock and one portion of chips.The haddock was very small and mainly batter.The cost of this meal was £25, our local chippie charges around £18 for 2 pieces of large fish and a large portion of chips.We were very disappointed as we have been eating there each time we visit. Not next time we come to Aldeburgh.

You've got to get your takeaway fish and chips here.....we went today and the staff were absolutely brilliant and so friendly.
The quality ,taste and portion size of the takeaway fish and chips was fantastic.... don't miss out.

Chips and peas were great but the fish was poor. My wife's haddock seemed to have been double battered and so was really overcooked which was a shame as the fish in the middle was obviously fresh. My fish was slightly better however we will not be returning!! Very disappointed!!

Great for a fish and chips supper without the queue. Simple table service, fresh from the main chippy.

Wafer thin cod in a batter 5 times thicker. It was then over cooked that the ends of the cod was as hard as the batter.
The cod was replaced, only slightly better, very greasy.
Chips on the other hand were undercooked, looking rather pale.

After not been able to attend upper deck for a couple of years . It was so refreshing to turn up and greeted by one of our favorite members of staffPhillippa who remembered obviously one of there favourite couple lol....Then Rachel appeared with equally a big smile and greeted us how nice to be remembered by lovely staff.Now the service and foodWe ordered our meal great service as always and by a new member of staff thank you.Cod and chips mushy peas curry cuppa what else you need in life amazing food and serviceThanksLee and mo

Love this place, haven't been for a few years and me and hubby were welcome back by Phillippa. Rachel also came up to say hello from the chippy downstairs. So nice to be remembered. The staff are great and the food is great.
