Happy to recommend The Lighthouse Aldeburgh, Suffolk. The town is a little tired now - and we were there high season - we were last here over 20 years ago when Meades reviewed The Regatta and this restaurant was yet to reviewed by Gill.
This is a venue that delivers quality produce through high end classic cooking in a convival seaside atmosphere where afterwards the beach remains a working space the back of which is shopping a la High St Ken/Christopher's Place.
Her duck confit cassoulet was excellent; his beef stew not as good as what she makes indoors (sear the cube steak cuts first?) but very fine. We dined twice ... Mrs Fish and Chips were grand, my scallops were fine. Sticky Toffee pudding as good as Rules but I prefer custard to clotted cream (or a choice?)
Good restaurant ... Jay should visit.

Had high expectations based on the reviews but honestly can't see what all the fuss is about. Staff were friendly and helpful but I didn't think much of the food beyond the homemade cheese sticks which were decent. I'm not a seafood eater (other than battered cider and haddock) so I guess that is part of the problem and those in my party that had seafood starters (oysters and scallops) all raved about them. That said, their main fish course although well cooked was bland in flavour and didn't have the Thai kick expected. My steak was much the same, cooked well but flavourless. Only the sauce somewhat saved it. Plus I can't forgive restaurants serving what both appeared to be and very much tasted like supermarket oven chips at least not at the prices charged.

Great food and friendly staff. Made my mums birthday excellent. Great that there were so many vegan options too!

Superb meal and a very warm welcome from Sam. The fish soup was delicious and the sea bass was exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and will definitely visit again.

What a wonderful lunch 11 of us had to celebrate a 60th anniversary. As ever the food, service and atmosphere were impeccable. One of my favourite restaurants in the UK, because you know you will be looked after, it?s high quality without being pretentious, it?s authentic, professional and relaxed- which is why these guys are still going strong after 30 years - thank you to the whole team - we will be with you next time we are in Aldeburgh - can?t recommend highly enough for anything from a lovely meal two up to a big family celebration

Enjoyed our best evening meal here. Started well as they squeezed us in when they were fully booked. Excellent friendly service and delicious food.

Another perfect return visit. Great hosting and accommodating service. As for the food, a seemingly simple menu contains nothing but consistently perfect items with no bad choices. The kitchen staff obviously know what they are doing. Thank you.

Popular and friendly and accomodating staff , good menu and drinks list in a lovely coastal village. Whats not to like. And if lucky one may get to see Lesley Taylors unique and fun 3-D art.

What a surprise.!! Looking a place for lunch we wandered in.
Great welcome , impressive interior and lovely seating area. We chose the 3 course lunch menu for £25.00 per head. Dressed crab to start with smoked trout main. Glass of wonderful Italian white wine.
Food was fabulous. Will most certainly recommend this restaurant . Thanks.

A late night craving turned into one really special experience. Last night post a concert we wanted some pudding to round out our evening and decided to stop in at the Lighthouse.
It turns out that the proprietors were not only happy to serve us but made fresh gluten free and regular sticky toffee puddings, the best coconut ice cream we?ve had in a long time and various other wonderful treats. We didn?t leave for more than an hour as other friends joined us and they were just the most warm and welcoming.
Really enjoyed the house blend whiskey too.
Highly recommend, just wished we?d come for dinner!

A good lunchtime find for a late family lunch for 4 in Aldburgh. Although it was the busy Father?s Day weekend we were warmly welcomed by the host and his staff. The food was great and arrived promptly. All told £20 per head plus a tip.
