We booked a table for 10 plus infant to celebrate my partners? 60th birthday. What a fantastic decision that was. The staff could not have been more helpful. The food was fantastic and extremely good value. I contacted them in advance and they made a delicious birthday cake to serve at the end of the meal and even put up birthday bunting. Could not recommend this inn more highly!

Called in after a walk . Had lunch and a drink. They have a good selection of real ales on the bar. Service was excellent and friendly. They make a point of sourcing most ingredients within a few miles. Our meal was delicious, hot and we didn't wait very long. I would recommend this pub to anyone.

We had a wonderful weekend stay at The Black Lion in Butterton. A group of five of us stayed across two rooms and were thoroughly impressed from start to finish.
The location is stunning, overlooking the Manifold Valley, and the garden is especially lovely, with both ornamental planting and allotment-style vegetable beds?a lovely touch. The terrace was a great spot for a drink before dinner. Inside, the pub is cosy and characterful, with a welcoming feel.
The food was absolutely fantastic - more on that below.
Would highly recommend for food lovers, walkers exploring the Peaks, and anyone after a peaceful, characterful countryside getaway.

Stayed twice at The Black Lion now and absolutely love this inn. The rooms are lovely (dog friendly too),the food and drink very good quality. The service was very warm and welcoming. Also must mention how beautiful and peaceful the village is. Looking forward to returning.

The staff here were amazing and the food was delicious. I had the pork shoulder and it was one of the best things I?ve ever eaten !!!

Had an evening meal.I had the lamb rump which was tasty but some parts a bit chewy.My parter had the pork which he enjoyed The staff were lovely and helpful.the reason for the 3 stars is a 3 came on with a dog which was was a nuisance basically Owner couldn't control it .I really do not think dogs should be allowed in eating areas or perhaps have a designated area for them for eaters Personally I wouldn't return as the dog spoilt my evening.Sorry but I am a retired chef and dogs were not allowed in my restaurant

Really enjoyed the Black Lion Inn. I had a room for one night and the welcome was great, the room was comfy, clean and had everything I needed, perfect. Also had dinner in the pub and breakfast, food and the service was really good. Definitely recommend. ?
