I am hugely disappointed in the attitude and service at this pub. My wife and I have been customers at this establishment for many years, i lovely typical 'country' pub and always been happy with the service, on this occassion, visiting with 2 other couples we found our experience very disappointing. I have to say the two courses for £14.95 is a bargain with some decent meal choices, my gripe is that my wife is a ceoliac (gluten/wheat intolerant) and was given a seperate menu, when she asked if she could have two courses from that menu for £14.95 she was told, by the abrupt, rude older waitress that she would have to consult the manager and after consulting him as a one off it would be OK. There was vegan options on the normal menu offer, which is a lifestyle choice, but no GF so any ceoliacs would have to order from the GF menu, at extra expense. That was just the start, drinks to the table took an eternity to arrive, the chips looked liked they had been cooked, time and time again and when one of our party asked for a coffee was presented with half a cup, which was, when asked, topped up with hot water which made it very weak tasting. I have to say the young girl waitress was polite and courtious and did everything she could to oblige us, the older lady was, i thought rude and I would have said something to her but did not want to make a scene in front of friends. We will therefore be giving this establishment a break for a while

Had a meal here tonight and must say that I was disappointed. I ordered Lasagne which came and was so greasy I had to pour the excess oil out, it tasted okay but this spoilt it.
No one came to ask how things were.
At the end of the meal a guy came to clear the table and I told him to which he replied he would let the chef know.
That was the last I heard.
This place has always had a very good reputation and have never had a bad meal but I will think twice about going again.

Arrived without a booking on pie night. How naive. Landlord told us it books up days before. However, he took pity on us and squeezed us in with the proviso that we'd have to be done before the booked people arrived. No complaints from us!
Food was tasty, well-cooked and cheap (two pie meals for £13).
Nice place, friendly staff, lovely spot. Give it a go.

1st choice - pity we don't live in Stanley so we could walk there.update 27.09.2024 lunch time, food taken a turn for the worse, unappetising burger , virtually no salad or chips, not value for money

Fabulous traditional country pub/restaurant. Very friendly and supportive of the local community.

We had a lovely family 2 course meal here, varied main courses some included in the £14.95 for 2 courses which a great selection to choose from.
I personally had 3 meat for £15.95 which had very nice chips, onion rings and garden peas which complemented my gammon, steak and peppercorn chicken which were all perfectly cooked. I always take a doggie bag home for our lab but he nearly missed out as I was enjoying it too much.
The staff were so helpful and friendly which is sometimes missing at the national chains. We all said we will definitely be returning to this wonderful pub again.
Parking: Access the parking area through an archway at the side on the pub.

Absolutely beautiful country style pub based in a beautiful village. Olde worlde vibes. Parking around back, outdoor tables at front. Food is fabulous with themed food nights. We had a meal on pie night and it was gorgeous and well worth the price. Disabled access to the restaurant around the rear is only hampered by a parking space right outside the rear door which can stop wheelchairs getting to the door if vehicles are parked too close. Also, access to toilets is difficult for disabled guests to access as you have to go back out of the restaurant to get around to a toilet based in the top half of the pub due to stairs. Gorgeous decor, atmosphere and lovely helpful staff. We are definitely returning - and soon. Fairly priced meals and good home cooked food
Parking: Free parking at the rear and quite a lot of spaces HOWEVER, this pub is very popular and spaces can go quickly at peak times. There needs to be proper markings around the disabled parking bay as, when a car us parked there is can block the only disabled access ramp/door for wheelchairs.

Stopped off for a bite to eat after a busy day. Sat outside as had our dog with us and they?re not allowed inside which was fine. Had a fantastic meal and would highly recommend ?

Country pub in Stanley which has very good choices of excellent meals on the menu but not many choices on the children's menu. The restaurant is limited to 6 people per table/booking. Booking is recommended as it is very popular. Large car park and outdoor seating. Bar area if you just want a drink.
Dietary restrictions: There is a Gluten free menu. When we visited the pudding was vanilla ice cream.
