I had a very frustrating experience at this shop. Despite having around £50 worth of items to purchase, I was completely ignored. Two staff members were casually chatting behind the counter, and when another staff member came over, they turned their back on me and joined in the conversation instead of helping.
Meanwhile, the only staff member who was actively serving was arguing with a customer about DVD pricing and seemed unable to calculate totals correctly. I waited for over 10 minutes without being acknowledged not even a simple ?we?ll be with you shortly.?
This gave the impression that the store is more of a social hangout for the staff than a professional retail environment. Basic customer service training is clearly needed, and I strongly suggest that management visits more regularly to set expectations and enforce some structure.
With how challenging the retail market is these days, one would think customer loyalty matters but it certainly didn?t feel that way today. I won?t be returning unless I see real improvements.

Strictly Not Recommended: A Very Disappointing Experience at CEX Hanley (and Online)
I've had multiple disappointing experiences with CEX Hanley, both in-store and through their online service, particularly with their used HDDs and DDR RAM memories. This past month alone, almost every single item I purchased has caused problems.
Roughly 50% of the HDDs I bought were faulty, which is an incredibly high failure rate. Even more frustrating, the RAM modules were frequently mislabeled, leading to constant annoyance when I got home only to find I had the wrong type or mismatched modules for my needs.
Beyond the product issues, the staff at the Hanley store are consistently unhelpful and unwelcoming. They come across as unfriendly, impatient, and possess very little knowledge about the products they're selling. This lack of support makes resolving issues even harder, especially since I've never managed to get a refund for faulty items. I even filed an online complaint, but nothing came of it.
Given these repeated frustrations, I strongly advise against buying from CEX Hanley or their online store. You'd be wise to try to avoid them altogether.

CEX online said there was 3 copies of a £10 game I was looking for in stock here. Went in and there was none on the shelves, I went up to the counter and asked. A member of staff went rooting around and said the only copy they had was a disc only version and he couldn?t find the DVD case anywhere. I said well if it doesn?t come in a case could I at least get a discount, he turned to his manager and she said very bluntly ?no discounts?. Which is a bit pathetic tbh because if I were to bring the disc in for the £4 trade in it?s worth, I guarantee without the case they would shoot me down and probably did so to the poor soul that sold it to them. I looked on CEX?s website again for it, and noticed you can either buy the game in the DVD case for £10 or you can get the version that comes in the cardboard sleeve with the correct graphic design on it for £8, mine didn?t come in either of these. I said the disc looks scratched but I was assured it had been tested. I bought it anyway, took it home and it didn?t even work.
Edit because they have responded: If the stock levels are updated in real time - why was the website displaying 3 available copies of the game while I was standing in the store? I did also do a click and collect order to avoid this happening since for a different game as there was 1 of the game I ordered in stock. I paid for the game and the payment went through confirming my order to collect the next day, and the following day I got an email saying the order was cancelled because they didn't have the game in stock. I have checked the website frequently since, and the stock for the game has not been updated. It still says 1 in stock even though when you ask the store it says they don't have it and haven't had it for weeks. So the stock clearly isn't updated in real time

Rip off merchants, sold a 5 month old apple watch for drop and go, as b grade due to a small scratch on front of screen, bare in mind had a small scratch on first day i got it then spent rest of time i owned it in a screen protector, staff member agreed it was a b grade only go for test and they reduced it to c grade which i received by email with no explanation, same thing happened on my old samsung watch which was in as new condition not a mark on it, never use to have this issue selling old tech now seems find any excuse knock money off and no doubt they'll sell it as a b grade ! In future I'll stick to selling old tech private.

Pathetic. I saw a SNES mini advertised for £85, listed online. Travelled 40mins to get to the shop. Spent 15mins waiting in a queue with no apology or communication to customers during that time. All three members of staff were busy sorting out items that customers had brought it. One had at least 20 games, an iPad and other things that were being evaluated which meant there was no movement in the queue - why not have one line for customers handing in items and one for purchases?! I finally got to the counter and was totally ignored by the staff member for three or four minutes. Eventually I managed to speak to another member of staff who realised I was there and said I've come to buy the SNES mini you have listed online. She said she couldn't sell it to me as it doesn't have any controllers. I said "so that's it then?" and she said yes. What an absolute total rubbish way to run a business. Why list it if it's not actually available. Won't be shopping in CeX ever again, really disappointed and overall was a 2hr wasted trip.
