Being a student, It's tough making ends meet. Came in here this week to try put my xbox in temporarily because finance was not due until 26th. Guy refused to take it as "they have too many" even saying I want my devices back. Still refused. Paints everyone with the same brush. Pile of rubbish. Now I see why this is so badly rated.

Of all the bad experiences I've had in this branch, todays was by far the most humorous and unprofessional. If you're not able to handle dissatisfied customers without shouting and getting upset with them, you shouldn't be working in the worst cash converters in the west midlands.
If you?re going to sell, sell to the facebook marketplace, you can check cash converters website for the prices, knock a tenner off and still get more than you would here. They told me they only pay half of what they can then sell something for, if they can sell something for £60, so can you, and without only being given half of that by rude, unprofessional middlemen.
I came into the store today to sell a violin and get a refund on what's probably the 10th piece of gear I've bought from here which was broken due to them not testing anything properly. This wasn?t even an electrical fault, the input port on it was straight up BROKEN and they?d put the device behind glass to hide that fact. (there?s literally a broken electric organ that?s been ?sold? for 2 months now, I tried to buy it before and they said they wouldn?t ship it like the rest of their items because they?re already doing a favour by selling it at such a low price (it?s BROKE, is why) just one of my hilarious yet alarming stories I have of this place and it?s inability to test music gear).
First of all while queuing at the selling desk one of the members of staff begins to ask me how they can help etc when it's obvious I'm waiting to talk to the person at the selling desk. I don't go in here half the time because it's impossible to browse in peace no matter how uncomfortable the staff make you feel. After letting him know that I?d rather talk to the person at the selling desk (which I was queuing at) he walked off muttering something under his breath.
I was then told that they were not buying violins due to having a lot of 'instruments' already (by which they meant a dozen rubbish acoustic guitars), this obviously wasn't what I wanted to hear but I (albeit begrudgingly) accepted this fact and suggested they should let people know if they're not buying instruments anymore (they do it with games, there's signs all over about other stuff, this was just a suggestion anyway, I don't work there, thank GOD).
I said that I'd take it to another Cash Converters but I still needed a refund on the broken music gear I bought last week. The member of staff I was speaking to then walked away from me while I was explaining this and did not return.
An older lady came back (she acted like the manager but I could be wrong, she might have just been really rude) telling me all about how they don't have to tell people if they won't buy stuff etc (I don't care at this point i just wanted my refund) and then she stood there and gave me the dirtiest look I've ever seen as if she was expecting me to argue back or become rude. So you can understand how much more upset she got when I told her "that's fine, I just need this refund". She cut me off and began raising her voice at me telling me that "it's obviously not fine because im complaining" (literally just wanted to get my refund and get out of this womans vicinity at this point, couldn't care less about the violin, I?d already told her several times it was fine and that there was plenty of other places i could take it to).
I wasn?t angry at this point, I was honestly more taken aback by how rude this woman was being straight off the bat. When one of the members of staff referred to me as a 'he' and I corrected them, the lady told me I was "playing the transgender card" in a way that suggested I was lying while the other member of staff tried to defend it by genuinely shouting ?I WAS TALKING ABOUT TOMMY!!!? at me from behind the clear glass. She spoke over me when I tried to explain but she was having none of it.
While processing my refund, she muttered something under her breath and politel

If I could give 0 stars I would I we by in to take some jewellery to see what I could get after going to the pawn shop a few door up I was given £80 for something these scammers tried to give me £10 for and also I?ve had multi friends who?s have been treated like dirt with them refusing refunds after being sold items that are faulty . Avoid as all costs or you may as well answer the phone to scammers and give them your bank details

Wouldn't recommend selling anything here, they undervalue your items, CEX is so much better. Don't shop here unless you're buying something, just not worth it.

Been in today and Ashley and Nate were absolutely amazing! I went next door to CEX and they sold me an incorrect item (sold me a PS3 remote instead of a PS4) and here at cash converter they advised me of this! They help instead of just getting money from you! So friendly and helpful! Would always come here for anything I need! Thanks guys.

Never been treated more like a criminal in my life. Not even an ounce of respect from the selling area, rude barley spoke up while behind a giant glass window, miserable and needlessly aggressive. Avoid this place and the btec Hagrid that deals with trading in items. Just go to the CEX next door.

Went to Hanley today and the gaffer was excellent, brilliant attitude and brilliant customer service I would certainly recommend it's the one to use, as I go there regularly in need of cash and to buy

Brilliant service, pc world where I had purchased it said they couldn?t get the replacement screen. Damian sourced one and fitted it in 4 days!Would definitely recommend.

When it comes to selling; you will never ever hear anyone use the words "decent amount" and "cash converters" in the same sentence and there's a good reason why. As soon as my lay-bys here are paid off I will never be selling my secondhand goods here again. Today I bought in items which I had paid over £150 for in the past year all in great condition to receive a giant slap in the face in the form of £45. £5 for a graphics tablet I paid £40 for, £20 for a guitar pedal I paid £50 for, and £20 for a brand new record player that cost me nearly £70.I was then told I could not sell one of my instruments and was told to take it to another branch (and was quoted a minimum of £40 for an instrument that cost OVER SIX HUNDRED POUNDS).This store used to be my favourite in Hanley but my experience here has put me off for life. I was shown true human greed when I saw how much cash converters would be selling the items they paid me bare minumum for, I am a student and I didn't sell these items lightly and I wouldn't have agreed to these abysmal prices if I had any other choice. Lockdown has screwed me over enormously financially and todays experience at my once beloved pawn shop has added insult to 2 months of injury. I am disgusted and I will never be selling here again.

So called today and was told you sell an Alcatel One mobile phone locked to the Tesco network at £49.99
What doesn't make sense is you say this price cannot be lowered or discussed even though all the mobile network stores in Hanley sell it for half that price! Three mobile in Hanley sell the phone for £29.99 plus a £10 top up so total £39.99 and all their phones are sold unlocked.
How is this right? Your charging more for a 2nd hand mobile phone than it actually costs to buy it brand new!
