Walked in and pleasantly greeted by the staff. We were early but taken to a table straight away. Dining area bright and airy. Good start! Ordered food almost straight away. I am vegetarian and had already been told Halloumi was off the menu. I decided on Cheese and Onion Pie only to be told they had run out. I enquired about the spicy sweet potato burger. I don't like overly spicy and I was assured it wasn't. They were right, no spice, in fact, no taste at all. Obviously frozen and still mushy in the middle. Fries were undercooked, despite waiting for our food for a very long time. The meat burger was dry and bacon was burnt. We were hungry and so ate what we could, paid and left. At no point were we asked if everything was OK. Just terrible!

Worth a visit

This was our first visit since the reopening. It holds a special place in our hearts as we got married here in 2014. It has always been a great venue serving great food so there was a lot to live up to in my opinion.
Well, we were not disappointed! The food was even better than we remembered! Mouth-wateringly delicious with a great variety of options to choose from on the menu. We visited on a Sunday so the menu was reduced to allow for the Sunday roast option of which my husband chose the beef. We have honestly never tasted such good quality, melt-in-your-mouth beef. It was delicious. I opted for The Wheatsheaf pie which was also very tasty with plenty of chunks of meat and a dipping pot of gravy for my lovely homecooked chunky chips. My daughter had sausages which was also very good quality and very tasty.
The atmosphere was lively due to the DJ they had performing and also very welcoming. The staff were very smart, attentive and all working hard. We had a lovely experience here and we are so glad that it has been lovingly refreshed and still serving fantastic, good quality food. I highly recommend The Wheatsheaf for all occasions. We look forward to returning again.

Visited for Sunday lunch family of four. The decor is very nice, clean throughout including toilets.
Four Sunday roasts, two beef, one chicken and a vegetarian, all extremely good and a nice selection of vegetables, not the usual soggy carrots!!!Extra gravy supplied on request no problem.Service very good, lovely young lady, all staff pleasant and nicely presented.Only fault found the dessert menu bit disappointing same as everywhere else,a special dessert would be nice.Coffee to finish all in all good value and pleasant Sunday lunch. Will definitely visit again.

We met friends for an evening meal- party of 4 adults. First impression when arrived was that the place looked newly refurbished nice & bright nice colour palette on the walls but overall it looked soulless and unfinished it lacks style sadly & window dressings.
The food was average - one meal ordered was the cheese n onion pie which was served on the plate still encased in its foil tray !!!! Another meal was the Ribeye steak, I asked to swap the chips for boiled photo toes due to dietary reasons and I got oily tasted potatoes which I didn?t eat, I did mention it to the waitress but she didn?t seem interested. We were amazed on the amount of younger staff who need in our opinion further training in service?
All in all the food and service average - there was no Michelin experience noticed !!!!
Disappointing ??

What a disappointment! We looked forward to visiting the refurbished restaurant especially as we read about the chef having worked in a Michelin starred kitchen. My salmon was overcooked, my partner's beef cheek was eye-wateringly over salted. We thought that some green vegetables would have improved each meal but basically this is overpriced pub grub. Far better alternatives are available locally and we're unlikely to come here again.

I booked this room for two nights on a business trip arrived in the Sunday night after a four hour drive, hoping to feel refreshed and ready for the Monday , how wrong I was .I'm leaving feeling worse than when I arrived! First disappointment, no breakfast was being served, not even toast , this was not made clear on the website and when I booked I thought I'd made a mistake and could book breakfast on arrival. A mumbled conversation between staff was when I found out no breakfast for two days. THEN I was told there was no breakfast service. Out of professional courtesy, and automated message , a call or an email on confirmation of booking should have informed the guest about the breakfast situation especially as they have a large restaurant and it's kind of expected. Too late to cancel and I started worK too early to go find a cafe opened at that time .
So off I popped to the shop to find some fruit etc. Ps. No where to store any cold items in the room.
Next the walls are PAPER THIN so you hear EVERYTHING outside, you're close to the road , don't forget your good sturdy ear plugs .
Finally, there's an exit light above the door , too bright, you might as well sleep with all the lights on, don't forget your sleep mask ! The room was also warm with no way of cooling it down, the smaller windows do not open and I didn't feel safe opening the larger one looking out into the carpark. Rain came in the sky light so had to close that . Maybe I should have asked for a fan ?
The room was clean, tidy , more than enough space for a solo traveller . The bed was very firm, too firm for me, personal choice, it reminded me of The Princess and the Pea ?
I didn't eat in the restaurant so I can't comment on the quality .
Would I recommend it, NO ! Would I stay again ? NO .

Always a great destination. Superb since the refurbishment. Fabulous pub and restaurant with an excellent menu and lovely staff.

My partner and I decided to dine here after reading the Sentinel article that enthusiastically advised that the menu was designed by a Michelin chef and the in-house chef had previously worked at Little Seeds in Stone. We understandably had high hopes but wow - what a let down! We both ordered a fish and chip dinner at £17.95. A thin and perfect triangle of grey fish in an oily batter accompanied by crispy chips and mushy peas. The fish and chips clearly made their way directly from the freezer, to the fryer and then to our plate. The table next to us had a fried halloumi starter which solely consisted of 2 strips of battered cheese and what appeared to be mayonnaise. Garnish was conspicuous by its absence. Another freezer-fryer creation. If you are looking for food that is freshly prepared and cooked with creativity and passion then, in our experience, this is not the place for you. Regarding the service - I'm sure this will improve as the staff become more experienced - the one good point to note about our visit was that the food and drinks arrived quickly.

Had food here in the past and have been pleased but thought we?d give it a go at the reopening day. Had a steak costing £20.95 which was good enough and the chips tasted good but overall poor value for money. Only one mushroom and half a tomato with the meal. Better value and much tastier food at the Crown at Wrinehill.

We recently held an event under the new management at the Wheatsheaf. The staff were nothing but accommodating and everything went smoothly. The refurb has been done to a high standard and the new menu was lovely. We returned for Sunday lunch a few days later and enjoyed a lovely meal. Thanks to George and team. Would definitely recommend.
