My friends and I have been meeting at The George for a few years as we like the ambience in the Lounge. Drinks are a bit on the expensive side but as we enjoy the surroundings and pleasant staff we think it's worth it. However, I recently found on a receipt that I'd paid £28 for a medium glass of Merlot. I mentioned this to a member of staff who took it up with the duty General Manager who responded by saying he couldn't do anything about it. As we've been going there for some considerable time we felt we trusted them and I hadn't noticed it at the time. However, we will now check every payment and this review is by way of a warning to others to do the same.

Good atmosphere for a midweek evening drink

I spent a good few weeks here due to work commitments. And wow what can I say. The staff are just incredible, always chatty and going the extra mile to make sure I had what I may of needed.
Never less the food! Fair play to the chef. The food was just outstanding! After 3 weeks I pretty much got through the whole menu!

Lovely hotel right in the middle of town, great location and welcoming staff.
Rooms: Had a superior room, very luxurious.
Nearby activities: Centre of town, handy for theatre, bars & restaurants.
Walkability: All shops etc very close
Food and drinks: Breakfast was good buffet

Fabulous staff who made us feel very welcome. The rooms were a good size and the breakfast was beautifully cooked. Carol, our server, was fabulous and couldn't do enough to help us.
The only downside was that the lighting in our room had no subtlety - it was all or nothing...

I?ve not stayed here but eaten and snacked. A very well located hotel with a long history. It provides very good meals and a beautifully designed building. Service is very good and prompt. An excellent base to explore Lichfield.
Nearby activities: Close to the beautiful Cathedral and centre which has beautifully quaint shopping streets which are pedestrianised
Walkability: It has its own Clark
Food and drinks: A very extensive menu and wide range of snacks and drinks

Have not stayed here, but always take my mother for an evening meal when I am in the country and it has always been fantastic. I can highly recommend Darwins restaurant at The George.

Rooms: Everything you need for a weekend stay
Nearby activities: Very good location
Walkability: Lift wasn?t working so we had a lot of stairs.
Food and drinks: Very comfortable bar area. Breakfast has everything you need.

Love it here. Bathroom was a bit stinky. But generally enjoyed our stay again.

Hi Stacey
I fell I must write to you to complain about your New Year Event for 2024/2015
On arrival we were told the lift was out of order. Being disabled the stairs were a struggle to cope with. Our friends change their room for ours seeing it was floor one.
The room. Well, what can I say a broom cupboard. Room 65. We came to NYE last year the rooms were Perfect
The Event. Last year 2023/2024 was perfect. The food was filling and all of us was unable to finish the meal. This year we were very disappointed with the food. I had the Lamb, two pieces of broccoli and a slither of potato. Why not more veg? Plus, we had a sweet and a large cheese board to share. Last year we had coffee after the meal. This year we had no coffee. Good thing we went to Weatherspoon?s for food earlier
£10 to park your car? I managed to park on the Council carpark free of charge.
Finally, we all believe the price we paid were unjustified.
We will not be stepping into the George Hotel in the near future.
