From the moment we walked in, the service at the Canal Tavern was excellent ? friendly staff, no wait for a table, and nothing was too much trouble. The décor, cutlery and tableware gave a cosy, rustic pub feel that instantly made us feel welcome.
There?s a wide range of drinks on offer, with the Guinness poured to perfection. The food was superb: the steak was cooked exactly to order, served with a large mushroom and rich mushroom sauce (with other sauces available), and the chunky hand-cut chips were spot on. I had the chicken shawarma hanging kebab, which was packed with flavour and served with wraps and salad, while the steak and ale pie was tender with perfectly buttery pastry.
A truly welcoming pub with great atmosphere, attentive service and outstanding food ? without doubt one of the best pubs in Yorkshire. Highly recommended!

Although it?s fairly local I?d never been to the Canal Tavern but what a find ! Great place to eat and great atmosphere so will be going back for sure ?

The Canal Tavern is a popular pub for meals next to the canal. There is a good choice of beers, larger and cider including two hand pulled cask conditioned real ales. The cask ales were in excellent condition when we called in. There is an outside seating area next to the canal. There is no pool table, the pub is dog friendly.

We came last night for a bite?and as always, it was perfect from start to finish. The team here couldn?t be friendlier, and the food is nothing short of excellent. Canal Tavern truly is a spot you shouldn?t miss. Oh, and their white chocolate cheesecake? Absolutely divine.?

Just been for first time for Sunday dinner, not impressed.
Didn't get my roast beef or mushy peas and the meal wasn't hot and the cauliflower cheese was luke warm.
Cheese cake was nice but won't be returning.

5 people. Starters mains and desserts. Pies were amazing. Chicken burger was so tasty as was the veggie burger. Belly pork.. out of this world. Starters and puddings were perfect. 2nd visit for us as we travel from Liverpool and Lincs to meet up and will deffo go again. This is our perfect meeting spot but we are all too stuffed to drive home!!!

Brilliant pub, wide range of drinks available, always a good atmosphere.
Usually go in here for food and everytime has been spot on, from starters to deserts, even the kids meals are great. Priced fairly for the quality you get, you do usually have to book though as it gets quite busy.
Plenty of parking across the road, conveniently under a bridge too

Great food, very busy on a Sunday lunch so a delay in getting seated from our booking time, however the food was excellent but the dining area was cramped and lacked atmosphere

Been for lunch today.
I had fish and chips and they were very nice, batter was light n crispy the fish was white and tasty. Home cooked chips and mushy peas.
