My parents had booked in here earlier this year, they didn?t stay more than one hour due to the conditions of the place. They were told they would receive a full refund however didn?t hear anything and didn?t receive their refund. They tried to phone this morning, but looks like the line has disconnected and from Companies House it appears the business has been dissolved. Is anyone else in this position?

Summary - The dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed in!
Dated yes, some furniture & fittings broken yes but it was the cleanliness that really upset and shocked me! I was told by reception on check out that the company 'Brilliant Hotels' have only just taken on the Staindrop Lodge and the pandemic has a terrible effect on the hospitality service. I appreciate these are challenges BUT the hotel SHOULD NOT be open to the public & taking bookings in its current state.
Visiting Sheffield for the university open day. I booked Staindrop Lodge having read the reviews online, without taking into account the date of the reviews. Turns out they are very out-of-date. Since the hotel changed hands the older reviews definetely no longer apply! Neither does the AA 3+stars, in fact the hotel is no longer listed on the AA website.
I was the only adult with 3 childern, 4+ hours from home. If I could have moved to another hotel I would have done! But despite constant checking through out our stay the nearest availablilty was in Leeds.
Our visit:-
We arrived late Friday evening. There were parking spaces in the car park but there was also a very large overspilling skip. I was surprised at check-in, Covid QR code display, no symptom check list or any mention of covid at all. We went to my daughter's room first, on the stairs outside the room door was a pile of dirty towels, crockery and used face mask. Inside the room, it was very warm/airless & stuffy. The toilet had a skid mark in the bowl and only one towel for two people staying two nights. Mine & my son's room was the other end of the hotel and very grubby. The overwhelming mildew smell from the bathroom (the extractor fan did not work). The kettle had water in it that was black & mouldy. In the wardrobe was balled up pair of used trousers that also contained a used pair of underpants & socks. The carpet was heavily stained and very dirty, used ear plugs around the bed. Ther toilet seat was only attcahed by one hinge, so slipped around if sat on. The cold water pressure tap barely dribbled out. The shower lever was very tempermental, so we had to keep pulling it to get the water to come out of the shower head. We also only had one towel (grey & smelly too). In both rooms the TV and kettles were lasted PAT tested in 2018.
During our stay of three days I did not see any staff cleaning the rooms and/or public areas. Other than a box of disposable face masks and a tub of hand gel there was no consideration for covid safety.
Yes I complained as did many other customers and continued to look for aleternative hotels in the area. We booked through Booking.com and paid at time of booking (£345). When I checked out there was finally someone on reception that looked as if he may be able to help - he did not. Other than repeat the hotel had just been taken over and they are planning a refurbishment, he just listened to my list of issues but said he was not authroised to make any refund as the booking was through Booking.com.
DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!
The hotel cancelled our booking after we returned home so I can not leave a review on Booking.com. Wow just WOW!!!!

Absolutely gutted this hotel has gone so down hill as we have stayed before and was beautiful! Now however, this is not the case. The room we had was awful, shower screen was broken, toilet top was broken, plaster literally falling off the walls, holes in other walls, sofa in the room was badly stained, bed was very uncomfortable I could go on. Currently there is only 3 meals on offer so we ended up at the pub which is close by and lovely!! I have been informed it has recently been taken over, I only hope they bring it back to life!

We had a very poor experience. We had booked in for one night.
Our first impressions were not good: an overflowing skip in the car park, weeds in the out door eating area and dirty floor covering to the main door.
The foyer appeared clean. The gentleman at the desk was pleasant.
Our room was on the first floor. The carpet on the stairs and landing was filthy.
The carpet in our room was filthy. The surfaces did not look clean.
We left.
We are still waiting for our money to be refunded.

I'd give this hotel a 0 star if that was possible!
Booked 2 nights at this hotel a couple of weeks back for a weekend in the Peak District. Drove 4 hours to get there, to walk in the room and walk back out again. We refused to stay, no offer of an upgrade, instead instant agreement to a full refund upon request, money was back in our account within 2 days.
First impressions of the hotel when pulling up in the car park, not too bad, huge skip in the middle of the car park and someone strimming the grass and weeds at gone 6pm at night isn't great. Entrance to the hotel was clean and as expected. We had an issue with our key card not working which we found out when we got to the room. No one on Reception when we went back to solve this. Several phone numbers on bits of paper around the desk and on the wall, no idea which one we needed to call for attention. Someone eventually showed up and was polite, sorting the card.
Got in to the room and instantly took a dislike to it. Firstly, there was a funny smell about the place, the carpets were very dirty and look like they hadn't seen a carpet cleaner in several years. The bed was extremely small (standard double) for the size of the room which could easily have fitted a king or super king size in it, the actual bed and mattress was rock hard, not comfortable in the slightest (I've slept on more comfy airbeds in a tent before!). The bathroom was extremely dark and dingy, only 1 set of towels had been left in the room despite it being booked for 2 people. No form of ventilation other than a small window in the corner overlooking the car park and main road. The room didn't feel welcoming or cosy in the slightest.
There was also no pre-warning that the hotel was operating a limited restaurant and bar service. Having read up about the 2 dining areas and what they offered we were looking forward to the atmosphere of the bar along with a few drinks the evening we arrived. When trying to look for someone to sort the key I wandered in to the empty restaurant, certainly lacking all sort of atmosphere we hoped for. The food menu was also extremely limited with no prior warning. This usually wouldn't be an issue but the hotel is in a residential area with little to no places surrounding it to eat and drink.
After sitting in the room for a short period of time trying to look for other accommodation we ended up giving up hope and driving 3 hours back home completely re-changing our weekend plans.
I certainly wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. It either needs to shut down completely or needs a complete overhaul to make it more welcoming and a place people actually want to stay.

The Hotel reopened after being shut because of the Covid lockdown. The carpets were stinking, the towels were not fresh and was hot as no ventilation. So had a terrible night.

We stayed at this so cold hotel just one night but thay charged us for 4 nights.we had to leave on the first day as we had a family member that fell very ill back home.we have tried everything to get the money back and it?s now 10 days now still nothing back we have emails to them and we have tried to ring them but the numbers don?t work. It was absolutely dirty in the room I?d not let dogs sleep in it. no drinks at the bar as nothing in stock. Please if you are thinking of staying at this place please think twice you will be better in a tent ? if I could give 0 stars ?? I would definitely do that but I can?t as you have to give it one please please think before you stay at this place.we are going to get a solicitor on to it to get the money back we payed out on this place

Poor service, staff walk straight in room without knocking, staff agreed a refund over issues in person then 180'd when contacted. Honestly you'd be better off donating the money to charity and then sleeping in your car

Nice to see the place back open, not busy at all which was great for keeping distanced from others. Shame there weren't any real ales on

Staff were friendly and welcoming. Food was very good. The rooms were ok but let down by their cleanliness. As was the public toilets near bar. They need to improve their housekeeping especially with covid around.

Room a bit shabby but good value for money. Staff friendly. Needs refurbishment.
