I am writing on behalf of my parents.
They booked a three-day travel to Rome last year September 2022 for their 40th wedding anniversary. Needless to say, what Hays Travel sold them was NOT what they arrived to in Rome. I am now going to publicly shame Hays Travel on the internet for not being more accommodating to my parents. They spent around £1000 on their holiday.
Here are the details. This is what my dad wrote to Hays Travel (with photographic evidence).
1. We arrived as planned in Rome on the evening of 18 September at
approximately 21.30 pm. We could not locate the driver to take us to the
resort. When we eventually found the COTAV/FIAVET desk on an upper floor
of the airport it was closed. The driver did not answer the phone. Airport staff
attempted to phone him several times and were unsuccessful.
After discussions with airport staff we got a taxi to the given address.
On arrival, the main door was locked and there was no entry into the building.
The building appeared to be abandoned!!!. On ringing the intercom to the hotel there was no response.
Fortunately a group of young ladies arrived and knew that to enter the building, a KEYCODE had to be entered in a keypad on the opposite side of the door to the intercom.
The condition of the hotel was appalling. The Reception was sited 4 flights up and referred to as Level 1. A doorway
lead us into an unoccupied Reception area. We waited a while for someone to
arrive. No one appeared and signs indicated that the Reception closed at
21:00pm. We looked behind the desk in the Reception and found our
?Welcome letter? and key to Room 101.
There were no cupboards for clothing and a safe that did not work.
On the welcome letter was a comment that we needed to go to Floor 2 to get
our ?breakfast vouchers? as this was conducted off-site at a 1-star restaurant,
five minutes walk down the street!!.
Breakfast consisted of coffee, juice, croissant and an omelette, and can only
be described as adequate.
Prior to departure we asked the Site Manager to contact the taxi company for
our return trip. The Manager was unable to get anybody to answer the phone
and he kindly ordered us a taxi.
Total costs for taxi in and out amounted to 105 Euros (which we only received £75 back).
FINAL COMMENTS: n
When we purchased this package we wanted an up-market hotel as this was
an anniversary celebration.
On booking, we were told the resort was 4 Star. When we checked the
advertising material at Hays Travel on 24 September 2022, the resort was
listed as 3 Star (we experienced 1-Star) and the pictures shown are of considerably higher quality
room than what we experienced.
Being disabled (which is not the issue here) made the stair climb and walk to breakfast an unnecessary
task.
In conclusion we feel this trip was mis sold!!

We thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding your recent holiday and naturally we are always very concerned to hear that any aspects of our customers? holiday had not met with their prior expectations.
It was concerning to read of the problems you encountered upon check in at the Chic and Town Luxury Rooms. We appreciate the disappointment caused when you could not at first enter the building. Hays Tour Operating acknowledge the photographic evidence
provided is a cause for concern as is the maintenance issues within your room and the building as a whole. Customer feedback is extremely important to us and allows us a real insight into the properties we feature, we can confirm the feedback of this property have been taken extremely seriously and passed to our products team to undertake an urgent review as to the suitability of the Chic and Town Luxury Room to our Tour Operating programme.
With regards your dissatisfaction regarding breakfast. We feel It is always difficult to respond to general criticisms of food offering at breakfast etc since this is to a large extent, a matter of personal taste and opinion and accordingly, subjective. What one person finds acceptable, another
