I was invited with a few friends to afternoon tea, I wasn't disappointed it was the best afternoon tea I've had. Little finger wedges for sandwiches with about 6 different fillings, savoury items such as quiche, pork pie, chutney, scotch eggs, grapes. There were large chunks of delicious cheese. There was a plate with large strawberries covered in thick chocolate that were delicious, small bites of other sweet desserts and scones with jam and cheese. We had a lovely afternoon in a lovely place with good friends and great service from the staff. I would recommend the Earl Of Doncaster for afternoon tea.

14 of us went here this afternoon for 'Afternoon Tea'. Won't be going again that's for sure. I'd ordered the Savory version, which was £1 more than the classic version. The quantity and quality of the items was shocking. Some crackers, 2 pieces of cheese, 1/4 of a small pork pie, 1/4 of a sausage roll, some celery and a mini scotch egg, a cheese scone, some smoked salmon on a half of a bread muffin and 6 tiny sandwiches cheese, ham & egg and that's it for £24.95 ?? the service when wanted to pay was shocking. The woman came and said one person needs to pay and then we can each pay them back so it makes it easier for them ?? so they wanted one us to pay almost £300 then get everyone to pay what they owed back to the person who had paid. We refused and said that makes it even more difficult for us so we all want to pay individually. So they then made us go up one by one to the bar, as they only had 1 card machine! What a joke! Some had leftovers that they wanted to take home, they gave us some tiny takeaway plastic contains that weren't high enough to place things in without squashing the food.
I would definitely not recommend having Afternoon Tea here, far too expensive, I feel it wasn't even worth half the price we paid and was a very disappointing experience ????

We had our golden wedding celebrations here on Saturday 15th Feb.
We couldn't have chosen a better venue.
From the checking in to leaving this morning we couldn't fault anything
Rooms: Lovely room, large bed, desk area and bathroom with separate bath and shower.
Food and drinks: We had a buffet for our party, nothing too much trouble, more than enough food for everyone.
The bar staff were friendly and helpful
Breakfast this morning was plentiful and lovely.

Absolutely shocking customer service !!!! Booked on booking.com and payed
Checked in was told they would charge 1p to have a valid card this was not done I was charged the room price again in full £96
I showed the doorman who was covering reception my bank statement and he said ?I had not been charged ? I clearly had
Spoke to other guests and they had not been charged again. He was extremely rude and told me I was incorrect and that if I was unhappy then the morning staff would deal with it.
Morning came I checked out and again was told I had not been charged again ! Yet my banking app clearly showed her I had.
1 day later i recieved 1p refund not the £96 I had paid.
I have phoned every day for 7 days now and been spoken to in a very rude and disrespectful way. I have requested to speak to a Manager on every call yet recieved no call to date or the wrongly charged refund.

Have just booked in & upon arrival
Was greeted by reception very warmly( reason for stay is a private function) ordered a snack from the menu of which was made to perfection, also I forgot my phone charger ( plug) reception supplied on the spot. Nothing any trouble for them, room has nice decor and a warm and friendly atmosphere in my view a very nice hotel a must for anyone coming to Doncaster, reasonable room rates
And I look forward to staying here again one day.

We were very disappointed with our stay, especially since we had booked this hotel for a special Valentine?s Day celebration.
Upon arrival at check-in (2 PM), we were sent to our room, only to find it was still being cleaned. We were then directed back to the lobby, where we had to wait with our luggage. Given the inconvenience, we expected at least a complimentary drink as a goodwill gesture, but nothing was offered. Instead, my wife was mistakenly charged £9 for a non-alcoholic wine, which was later corrected to £6 after we pointed out the error.
Service at the bar was painfully slow, 15 minutes and we waited nearly an hour before our room was finally ready. When we were eventually allowed up, the cleaner was still in the room, rushing to finish up and hand us our slippers and dressing gowns. Given our mobility issues, and the long wait we had already endured, it would have been reasonable for staff to offer assistance with our luggage?yet no such offer was made.
We booked the Superior Double (the best room available), specifically "the White Room with the Love Heart," but the experience did not match expectations. The net curtain had a hole in it, and there was loud noise from the adjacent ballroom until midnight. While noise is understandable, no complimentary earplugs were provided. The WiFi was also so poor we couldn't even make a video call to our daughter like we wanted to
Do not recommend The bed was uncomfortably hard, making it difficult to sleep, and between that and the noise, we only managed a few hours of rest.
For £145 per night and a special occasion, the overall service and room quality were underwhelming. We?ve had far better experiences?and much better sleep?at a Premier Inn.
Would not recommend.

Be warned!
I cannot comment on rooms service or location specifically as my issue is with the voucher system they operate. My in-laws bought my wife and I an afternoon tea voucher for 2 at a cost of £47.50 for Christmas 2023. Due to an oversight the voucher was not used within the 9 months specified on the voucher. I requested an extension, as a gesture of good will, and was basically told no extension would be given. Therefore, the money had been lost with nothing being provided in return. I do not believe this is an isolated case so please be aware when buying a voucher from the Earl that if it is not used within the time stipulated your money has been taken but with nothing being provided in return. This does not seem fair to me but despite phone calls and emails to the Earl I have hit a brick wall so the money has been written off and lessons have been learnt. I hope this review can prevent others from losing money in this way. Use it or lose it! You have been warned!

I was overcharged for my room.
Online companies advertised £86, a local friend booked direct and they charged me £130.
I've emailed them 3 times to complain and haven't even had the courtesy to respond.
14 of us planned to book for 3 nights to visit Doncaster races next month and have had to book elsewhere.

I stayed at the Earl of Doncaster in December and was very impressed. The hotel staff are polite, the building and rooms are well maintained with a different look to them. The food was great.
All in all very happy with the experience.
