Relaxed atmosphere, not overly busy for Friday in bank holiday, service was good though very relaxed. Food to a good standard and like most places quantity was sufficient - though a few more chips would not have gone a miss..?

I had lunch here the other day and it was a great experience. Our table in the corner was perfect and the staff were charming, friendly and helpful. Our meals were delicious and generous and the puddings looked amazing! Would definitely come again and I?d already heard good reports of it. My only quibble and advice was that the toilet floors could do with a good clean (toilets were fine). Something I couldn?t help noticing while sitting there!

Came here to see the gromit stopped for coffee and cake. Sat outside as no room inside. Took ages to bring the coffees to us and put ice in my drink without asking if I wanted it. Very expensive for what we had and not good service .Will be a miss next time.

Visited a few weeks ago with family.
One of party asked to make some adjustments to an order and the waitress was just passive aggressive in her response saying she will have to go and get a pad to write it down, looking visibly annoyed.
My starter was forgotten about and didn't come out with the other starters so was either missed by the kitchen or just not taken down in the order.
Charging 26.50 for a flat iron steak seemed a bit ambitious but I ordered it anyway hoping that it would be well executed. Advertised as medium rare and I double checked this at ordering. Quality control was poor as there was a huge piece of sinew running through it and it was cooked much closer to rare.
I shared this feedback at the time and I got an apology but the waiter didn't seem to understand what I was talking about. We were one of two tables in the restaurant at the time so they weren't busy.
I feel two stars is generous. Maybe it was an off day but the food and the service were very poor.

Had a lovely meal there, I had Bacon & Avocado Sandwich and Bob had Ham, Eggs & Chips. They were both very generous and really good. Also at the time they had a big Gromit hiding outside.

We went a bit late in the day and there was 6 of us. The food was great and the staff were helpful but it did take a bit longer to get the food then we had hoped, but it was worth it.

Second Chance? Same Disappointment
I decided to give Maples another try after a previous visit left me unimpressed with the slow service. Sadly, not much has changed. In fact it got worse!
Ordered a burger on its own ? £13. Steep, but I assumed it would be something substantial. 20 minutes later, I had to ask if it was ready, only to discover it had been sitting in the kitchen, unnoticed !?!
I dared to ask for a bag and was told they don?t have one and told me to go next door. Had to pay 30p for one and got a knife and fork from them. Instead ?.!!
For that price, I expected better service, basic organisation, and a touch of professionalism.
Disappointed again. For the last time for me. It?s clearly NOT an accidental disappointment, but a service norm at this place!

This restaurant is perhaps not in the most obvious of places. But one that is worth the time to visit. I was there with my children for my birthday and found a very pleasant, but quiet interior, with different table options. So leaving that choice to 2 teenagers, one was eventually reached.
The Saturday menu offered plenty of good quality choice and we pleased everyone, including starters and desert. Along with a fine beer.
The staff were very welcoming and did everything they could for the evening. Including presenting me with a Birthday card to mark the occasion.
So yes, we had a great evening and will be happy to visit again.

My daughter held her 25th birthday party here. The place is beautiful, there?s a really nice outdoor terrace and the buffet food was great but the staff really made it special. Excellent service from start to finish, friendly and attentive they catered for everything we needed. We had such an amazing evening. Thank you ?

April 2025 - 'Tuesday Steak Night'
Thought we would give Tuesday Steak Night a whirl.
Exceptionally good value and very good quality food (again). We both had sirloins which came with chips and large-ish side salads - and also two huge 'sharing portions' (green vegetables and mushrooms - we couldn't finish both of these).
We were both intrigued by the Dessert Menu but too full to be able to utilise it (and I'm a large chap with a big appetite!).
Add in some soft drinks and a tip and we rounded up the bill to £60 total which we both think was excellent value for the quality of the food (and size of the portions etc).
The lady says that her steak was much better quality meat/cooking than the one she had at the well-known national chain steak restaurant near the Morrisons' roundabout (locals will know what I am talking about) - I'd say that mine was of equal quality but much better value.
Huge shout out to Lily and her colleagues as the service was excellent too.
Proof of the pudding... we've already booked to go back in a few weeks time!

Arrived just after 8pm on a Saturday night so beat the rush (cafe was quite empty as the locals here in Somerset tend to eat very early compared to London).
I had a steak and sides (not enormous, but very well cooked good quality meat) and my client had a vegetarian risotto. With some soft drinks the total bill came to £44 (note: they don't automatically add a Service Charge which I appreciate - we rounded up the bill to £50 as the service was friendly, prompt and excellent).
So... not the cheapest for Somerset, but given the quality of the food (client liked his risotto too) was good value.
There is oodles of parking as well...
Final note: I've been here for Brunch before and it was jam packed then, so recommend booking a table just in case.

10 of us had a Sunday roast this weekend first time we have been there & it was excellent staff very friendly & helpful & food was excellent will be going again
