Second visit; this place is grand. Rustic, with vintage elegance and a quiet luxury. Lush, decorative gardens. A splendid menu of wholesome breakfasts. Fruits we saw in the burgeoning gardens outside our room heaped onto homemade pancakes-- they were so delicious! All the food is beautiful, really yummy, fresh, top quality.Best of all, the vibe is super peaceful, you feel welcome, and - after staying - refreshed. Highly recommend.

Lovely hotel, with cozy rooms, located in a very quiet village. Delicious and very special food in the restaurant.

Farthings exceeded my expectations. Being a country house hotel in a charming village I was expecting something a little faded, but it is really lovely and in top condition. Food was excellent - both breakfast and fine dining dinner - all served in elegant dining rooms. If you want to eat more simply there is a super pub a short walk away. Staff were all lovely. Rooms were spacious (I was in the recently build garden annex) and the bathroom very modern with super walk in shower. I was there five nights so was able to observe it is a relaxed and comfortable place to stay and very well run. Only gripes (and not enough to knock me off 5/5) were dodgy wifi in my room (I was in the Annex, so that might have been the issue). And if you want to serve a G & T please more ice, more than a tiny sliver of citrus and please stock a normal, full sugar, tonic. There is little point in offering sugar free or grapefruit flavoured tonic as the only options when you are not offering a gin, e.g. Hendricks, that goes with grapefruit! Minor gripes - I would stay there again without hesitation. Also loved the peacocks and guinea fowl in the garden, and the three dogs that pottered about.

Have been regular visitors for some years , time to record our happiness with the great food and service, we were there last Thursday, my son and I enjoyed excellent Gammon with fresh vegetables and chips, my daughter devoured her chicken burger in record time, whilst my wife enjoyed ham and egg salad. The friendly , efficient staff put our cakes in our box to take home to the Wirral, we will back soon...E..

Farthings Country House Hotel and Restaurant (Taunton) is an amazing place. I couldn't fault it. Stunning room (Beech), great food, a relaxing environment, idyllic gardens, excellent location, lovely building and, best of all, incredibly pleasant, helpful, courteous staff. I was booked in by a colleague as we were in the area for an event but I will 100% book in for some leisure time in the next month - somewhere I could truly unwind! Many thanks.

Wow !!! We booked this through a red letter day gift and hadn't really thought of Taunton as a place to visit and would not have easily found this but it was soooooo worth it !! Taunton is lovely and we made a trip of it with a stop over in the town and gardens there, and then a visit to Hestercombe gardens on our way home and would highly recommend that too ! The hotel and stay was on another level. Great service and friendly staff (especially Jo!) a great room with comfy bed and a rain shower and even a balcony to sit out. Very peaceful and relaxing. The cherry on top was the amazing quality and range of food in the restaurant. A great menu and clearly an excellent chef who cares a lot on what he makes. Even if you don't stay at the hotel (but you should !) you must try the restaurant !

We didn?t stay for the second night, after raucous and rude guests spoiled our dinner together also our bedroom was very noisy through restaurant hours; due, I believe, to an extractor system below. At night a very noisy throbbing noise kept switching on and off. In the past, this room has been fine. The food can be excellent but the staff are cold, unhelpful and even disdainful. No attempt is made to be hospitable or welcoming. There is no lounge furniture and a drink in the bar involves sitting at a dining table. We have stayed here twice before and enjoyed the food, but this stay was unpleasant. Never again which is a shame as we love the area and my wife has connections there.

This old country-house hotel is exactly what I would expect from a country-house hotel. The classic style of the building set in beautifully manicured grounds, off-road parking in a quiet location - the complete olde-worldy experience which went right through from start to finish. The front of house staff were bright, cheerful, welcoming and attentive. The room, full of well--maintained, old furniture were spacious, clean, and beautifully presented. Dining, well I could write a book on how fantastic this was, but suffice to say - we keep coming back to this hotel when touring the west-country because the food was out of this world! My wife is gluten-free, and the chef went out of his way to make every dish on the menu available available to her despite the extra work and imagination required. And we have to thank him and the hostess for this, as I'm sure she asked him especially for my wife to make sure she could have everything she wanted. The menu was both exotic and presented in a fashion that you would expect in 5-star restaurant. Totally out of this world in every sense, presentation, taste and served with grace and style. It IS an old building, the stairs creak, especially after dining! But if you're sick of the run-of-the-mill, sterilised, plain, unimaginative cheap 'you're a number not a person' chain hotels, and you want something with a little more 'personalisation for the guest' and stylish in the old-fashioned "guest -as - it - used - to be" way, not just a 'paying and staying drab modern boring eat-sleep-leave' experience with drab 'from the freezer' food and 'staff run off their feet' feel then this is for you.

Didn't stay so don't know about the rooms. But a beautiful location for a large family gathering. Well handled by the staff

We adored Farthings - a really special place. Beautiful decor, lovely gardens, delicious food & well kept beer. The staff were excellent too (special mention for Stan!). 100% recommended & we hope to return later this year. Thanks to everybody.
