A masterclass in how not to run a hotel. In 30 years of travel I struggle to think of a less welcoming, helpful or friendly front of house than the aggressive woman with blue hair running this place. The rooms are like a care home. You have to book your dinner slot in advance. You have to fill in ridiculous slips of paper the night before detailing your exact breakfast request and attendance time. There is zero flexibility in any reasonable request you might make. The food is OK but I?d rather sleep in a tent than ever stay here again. Leaving this hotel felt like escaping an abusive relationship.

Small room and small bed but very very comfortable and everything you need, including a fridge with fresh milk! Breakfast was complimentary as we had booked direct. However, I would have happily paid the £16.95 each for it as it was exceptional. Eggs Benedict was the best I have ever tasted and the full English was tasty and really well cooked!

Stayed here 2 nights last weekend. Hotel has lots of character gothic arches and a Bordeaux Wine theme in the restaurant. All staff were excellent very helpful and accommodating. We had dinner in the restaurant on Friday night, food and service were very good. Wine list is short but very well curated, we tried the Rioja Reserva which was lovely and great value. My only small criticism would be as it's a very old house (guessing 1860?), there are squeeky floor boards everywhere on the first floor, we had Room 10 which was along a route to most of the other rooms in the hotel, we found it was noisy at night as other people were heading back to their rooms. Otherwise a lovely stay thank you.

10/10 I have had such a wonderful time here. Service has been incredible, everyone has been so friendly and gone the extra mile which has meant the absolute world. Location is also really helpful as there are a wide variety of places to eat nearby if you choose to go out instead of eating with the hotel as well. If I should ever find myself in Taunton again I will definitely be staying here!

Nice clean rooms.Excellet location.Car park available for £5 per night.Very helpful staff.I had to change the room because water pressure in the shower was not good enough. They promised to get it checked and apologised for this. Very professional.Very close to the hospital.

Good breakfast, great service. Old house rooms are nice, modern extension rooms ok. No phone to room service. Can?t fault for an overnight stay at the value.Walkability: Central, easy walk to town.Food & drinks: Decent breakfast options.

Booked hotel via third party site for business stay.On Arrival receptionist very rude & abrupt. Decided I was not going to be treated like that and sought another hotel near by. Glad I didn't stay .

A great location handy to Taunton and the main street only a 10 minute walk. We had a bit of a mixed stay really despite paying for a larger room as had been advertised with a larger double bed, the room and bed were normal size. We pre ordered breakfast and the first day I got 1 x half a tomato, 1 x rasher of bacon and 1 x small sausage which for £16.95 I didnt think was good value. The beans I ordered never made it to the plate. The 2nd day I wrote x2 on bacon and poached egg, and ticked beans and sausage, this was better although this time the sausage I ordered didnt make it to the plate but it looked like a proper plate .To miss things off on a pre order is not really acceptable, I didnt complain at the time, maybe I should have. The first day there was no fan working in the bedroom's bathroom, so when we showered it stayed steamy in the bathroom, the 2nd day I realised someone had turned the isolater off above the door. I flicked the switch and fan kicked in. The shower cubicle has mould in the grout and wasn't the cleanest looking. I wonder if a previous guest had turned the isolator off and it hadn't been turned back on . Its close to being a good hotel but needs a bit more care and attention to what is being offered to customers.

Had spoke to the staff at the hotel before arrival on phone and email, always very friendly and helpful. Upon arrival, the staff were lovely, helping carry bits to the room. The room was spacious, very quiet, very comfortable and warm, beds were lovely, excellent amenities. Breakfast was delicious! Good selection of continental items and the hot food was prepared when we arrived and was really delicious! Only reason it didn't get 5 was the room was very warm overnight. Overall absolutely brilliant lovely hotel, fantastic staff. Would happily return

We stayed as a couple while touring the area in late September. We chose the hotel partly on location and having parking available. Didn't realise that parking is not free and costs £5 per night...(not a big deal)Friendly staff with a very helpful welcome. We were escorted to our room which was in the annex as we had requested a quiet room. Nice, well appointed room on the first floor, clean and tidy with everything working.Excellent breakfast with cereals etc from a buffet and the full English cooked and served to order. Again, friendly and efficient staff.Good location to walk into central Taunton (about 10 mins).I would definitely consider staying here again when next in the area.

Came here for a large family gathering and wow, I was very impressed! Being a local I've never visited this hotel to stay, but this was the first time I came to eat. We were given a set menu to pre-order and myself and my partner being vegans we rang up in advance and asked could the vegetarian options be made vegan - was told yes, and no worries. It's our first time being vegan and going for a meal in a place with a set menu so we were very worried. When they brought out the starters we were told it was vegan, but had anxiety because they looked the same as the other vegetarian starters. When the mains come out we (annoyingly) asked again "is this vegan?" to which one woman replied "in order to make it easier for us, we made all vegetarian options vegan" and made me feel at ease. The food was incredible, the servers, the people at the bar. I'll 100% be back in the future for a drink or some food. It's not easy hosting such a large group of people but it was great! Service was 10/10.
