Pie of the day was delicious,we also had two pork chops, changed the skinny fries for chunky chips,big mistake, tasted as if they had been cooked in old oil so didn?t eat more than two chips each.
Also sat at the table by the kitchen,had six flys buzzing around our food so moved to a different table,no flies, was told it?s summer

I was just pointing out, for us the chunky chips were awful ,
As for the flies how patronising of you to say you shall have a word with the flies,I was just pointing out that the table by the kitchen had a problem with flies, we chose that table unaware of the fly problem in that area, when we moved , there were no flies.

To pay over £9 for a glass of wine is absolutely rediculous. I think pubs like this are just generally greedy and taking advantage of customers. Will definitely not be revisiting!

One of the longest running and best pubs in the area, great local ales, immense amounts of charm and historical architecture and one of the best kitchens in the area! The head chef and team consistently put out fantastic food, especially this Sunday lunches and traditional fish and chips made with the absolute fresh fish I think I?ve ever had!Definitely going back regularly

Not only was the food absolutely incredible, Jules was so friendly, helpful and accommodating. Me and my partner cannot get over how delicious the food was! We had: Fish and chips, steak burger, loaded fries with pancetta and onion rings! Once again, Jules has made our experience one to remember, we will DEFINITELY be coming back!

Absolutely amazing food, we went for my father-in-law?s Father?s Day service was amazing atmosphere was great, and an absolutely 10/10 for food, I had the steak burger and I can honestly say it was the best burger I?ve ever eaten, will definitely recommend and will definitely be going back???

Vegetarian options: I am vegan gluten free and dairy free and still plenty of options.
Dietary restrictions: Chef really accommodating and was really happy to serve me what ever I wanted.

We have just had a meal at The Royal Oak, I have eaten steak and ale pies at lots of restaurants but this was the best ever. My husband had the handmade fish and it was really tasty. We will be visiting this pub regularly. Thank you to the team members who made us and our 1 annoying dog and 1 quiet dog very welcome.

Really great pub lovely friendly staff and I honestly had one of the best sirloin steaks I?ve ever had cooked to perfection. Considering it was a Friday night and busy the food arrived in a very reasonable time.

Really like the pub, as it was a last minute decision to go out for tea we had the last table available, not ideally placed, just a bit noisy!
The pie of the day was excellent, a proper pastry crust, plenty of filling, I had Linguine from the specials which was also lovely. Sweets were excellent, would definitely recommend calling in if anyone wants a break from the A303.
