Needs to improve its beer range to keep long-standing customers. Was once a great place to find ales from local breweries, now choice of one for £6.

Incredible food, drink and lovely surroundings. 100% recommend. Amazing Sunday roasts

Probably great for families, but it was noisy, full of pushchairs & not really conducive to a nice chat over coffee.

I've been coming to Coates for years and it's been consistently great. This was my first visit since change of owners. Got there just before midday, all was well, friendly staff, we ordered and received our tea before the food. We were so into chatting before we suddenly realised we'd been waiting over 40 minutes. My friend asked and we discovered our order hadn't been put through, even though we'd paid for it. We were asked if we still wanted it and we said of course we did but it had to be very quick as my friend was catching a train. One of the staff came and said it was her fault and apologised and said we could have something extra or a discount. We went for a discount. My friend and I both felt it was unfair to the member of staff that the manager didn't come and apologise as ultimately it is their responsibility. Anyway, we got our food which was good and some money off. And my friend just got to her train on time (luckily we'd got to Coates early otherwise she'd have missed it or we would have gone hungry. I will go again but urge management to take more accountability.

Have regularly been a customer of Coates House for breakfasts and the occasional dinner. Great service today from Tom when we visited for coffee!

Hadn't been here since before Covid. Went in with friends for a quick drink, and paid £18 for 3 fairly ordinary pints of beer. You have been warned...

Not bad. A bit pricey but good products, except the beans which tasted of chilli. Not on a full English please.

Delicious food, excellent quality. Service is great with a good atmosphere. A good choice of food and selection of drinks, the house lager is very good.

The table service for drinks was very slow. 10 minutes after being told ? well bring your drinks over? we were still waiting. We had to prompt the young barman. It took 15 minutes in total. The price of drinks here is also at the very top end and more expensive than City Centre bars. £6 for a beer you can buy elsewhere for a £ or more cheaper. It felt we were being ripped off.

Stopped for a quick lunch one Friday just as the new Autumn/Winter menu has been launched. This is the chicken schnitzel and battered hake garlic ciabattas with a side of fries. We were a little worried about having enough time to eat but this arrived promptly. The food was very tasty although there was a little too much garlic in the bread. But this is a consistently good neighbourhood cafe bar which is always on our list of places to eat.Vegetarian options: PlentyParking: Closest parking is behind High Street, on Station Road or next to Waitrose, no more than 5 minutes walk.Kid-friendliness: Selection of games, mainly for young ones. Kids menu with colouring. Open plan area (a few steps down) means families have plenty of space.
