We came across this place yesterday as we detoured to avoid motorway delays, what a great country pub. There seemed to be a beer and music festival kicking off as we got there. The atmosphere was great despite the dodgy weather.
We were stopping for some food - gyros' and pizza's, all served fresh and quickly - really good. Note, they have a longer menu with more choice but we caught them in between lunch and evening meals. The food was very good though

Went here for pub lunch after travelling to lots of different pubs in the area at around 2pm (all other pubs were shut). Even though they finished their lunch menu at 2 they let us eat, were super kind and great service. The food was delicious, never tasted better chips!

stoped here 27/9/24 approx 7pm on my way through.
we had a table for 3, food excellent , service was fast friendly and polite. I've kept their details as it would be a perfect stop over on my next trip down west.

Great friendly place. Had food envy when I ordered my meal which was lovely but shortly after a couple sat across from me received theirs and I instantly wanted the same as they both looked amazing. I can?t speak for their food but mine was fantastic.
The inn has loads of character and everywhere you looked there was evidence of a story to be told. I stayed one night alone but would love to come back to stay again with friends and try more of their delicious food and drinks.
Thank you great friendly and welcoming staff.

It was a nice pub and the food was very tasty. Especially the husbands burger. We walked in without booking and were able to be seated and within half an hour we were served even tho they were so busy and short-staffed they had a backlog of tables to be served but we think the staff were brilliant. They did a fantastic job, kept smiling, and got to us sooner than we thought they would. They were extremely friendly and we highly recommend the pub for its food and the service tho I suggest booking in advance.

We stayed at The Cross Keys Inn for one night passing through Somerset. Unfortunately, the stay wasn't as we expected.
The main reason is the misinformation and lack of communication from the Inn. The Inn had a 60th birthday celebration for a local, and I understand that the revenue brought in on a Saturday night is crucial to the survival of pubs/inns, especially in the countryside. However, it would have been nice to let overnight guests know that there would be a late party going on (so said guests can decide if they should stay out not). Also, the closing time of the bar lists 11 PM as closing time, but there are still people at the pub being rambunctious past midnight. Is it that difficult to change your hours on the website and on the room information brochure when the guests check in?
The manager of the establishment was kind, but in the end he did nothing but just said, "Thanks for letting me know." Didn't offer a proper apology, legitimate explanation, or any compensation for trouble caused.
I want to see small family run businesses do well, but if this is the kind of service they are providing, no wonder these businesses are dying thoughout the U.K.
Maybe staying here on a random weeknight would be fine. But stay at your own risk on a weekend day.
