Absolutely AWFUL.Booked a table at the Garden Cafe online only to arrive and be told we had to pay a £75 membership fee to be able to go.Overpriced, rubbish! We drove over an hour. The woman on the gate was rude and extremely dismissive. Clearly the only clientele they want there are people with lots and lots of money.Save your time and money and go somewhere else

Spent a day here looking around amazing walled garden with thousands of varieties of apple trees. Beautifully trained fruit trees, see pics. You have to buy annual membership to get in but then you can bring friends on day tickets , currently £20pp which is actually good value for a lovely day out. Good cafés in groups, but the main restaurant is unconventional- so keep an open mind if you eat here. The food is delicious though! Your entrance also includes entry into the reconstructed roman villa and new museum, built next to remains of original roman villa excavated within the grounds of the estate. It's a bit of a walk to the villa site, about 15 mins, so leave enough time to go because it's really worth it They have done the whole thing really well and to very high standards, all the staff are well trained and very helpful, great to take children who are doing roman history at school. Didn't stay at the hotel but if the rest of the estate is anything to go by it's going to be great! I would definitely return.

Such an amazing place. The service is flawless from start to finish. The staff can?t do enough for you and they?ve anticipated everything you?re going to want. The price is high but when you get there almost everything is included (bar the restaurant/bar) from the yoga to the afternoon tea to the minibar. Definitely recommend staying at the main house as most things were that side and the highlight was the indoor/outdoor heated pool. Will definitely be returning! Also if you?re picking a time, may be worth visiting in the summer months to see more of the orchard/garden (+ newts) and its quieter on weekdays when they are less day guests using the facilities).

Remarkable place. You can spend days there without experience it all. All the staff are lovely and everything is of the highest standard. Really enjoy every visit.

There is a before and after in hospitality after staying at the Newt. It?s hard to describe the level of quality, architecture, exceptional service and gorgeous surroundings that exist at the Newt. Above all, it?s worth mentioning the staff. Literally everyone was so cool, friendly, helpful, smart, and just truly nice people! Besides that, we had the most beautiful room. The shower was a dream. Also worth mentioning the outstanding massage by Alisa. She was so warm and generous. All in all, a truly memorable few days!Noteworthy details: Super comfy. Dyson hairdryer.

I had lunch with my family at the Farmyard Kitchen over the Christmas holidays. Having been to the Garden restaurant a few times and found the food delicious, we had high expectations. Whilst the location and hospitality were excellent the food left much to be desired. As a vegetarian a plate of carrots on top of some goats curd was tasty at first, but by the 5th carrot I was bored. My parents shared half a chicken with an expensive bowl of dry roast veg, which looked very sad. In summary, we were a bit disappointed. I don?t think we will be going back in a rush.

Had a delicious lunch in the aesthetically stunning Garden Cafe on Christmas Eve. The Brussel sprout risotto was yummy & the service exceptional as usual, despite being very busy. This was a real treat & set us up nicely for a hard day?s cooking & entertaining family on Christmas Day.On the way out a member staff helped us choose a gorgeous present from the shop. There are some lovely gifts in the shop. Could have easily done all my Christmas shopping there.

One of the loveliest hotels I have had the pleasure of staying in. A remote but beautiful location in the small village of Castle Cary, Somerset. 10 minute drive from the train station which has direct trains from London Paddington. We were welcomed by Mark and had time for a cream tea on arrival. We explored a little and became situated in our lovely room with every amenity you could think of, included a complimentary mini bar and snacks, sound system, log fire and welcome bottle of Somerset cider! There are a plethora of activities you can book onto during your stay, such as garden tour, honey tasting session, deer park tour, Roman Villa Experience and making use of the spa, sauna, hydro pool and more! The hotel also has massage and hairdressing services. There are loads of things to see and do around the estate, and I would definitely book at least 2 nights to do so if you can!Rooms: Rooms where every detail has been painstakingly thought about! Beautiful classic yet modern design, warm and invitingNearby activities: Hotel is based on a large estate, which can be navigated on foot or by borrowing a golf buggy. Plenty to see and doSafety: Very safe and secure location, could perhaps be more well litFood & drinks: On site gelateria, self serve bar, 3 restaurants and multiple cafes, plenty of rooms to relax in and a complimentary cream tea for hotel guests 3-5pm
