I spent two days in Castle Cary this week and had my small dog with me. On arrival (Tues 28th Aug) I called into the tourist information centre to enquire about areas to walk the dog and to see if I could take the dog into any of the pubs. The lady I spoke to said she didn't know of anywhere to walk the dog but i could try the playing field. She was very helpful in providing me with a map and showing me how to reach the field. She also said she didn't know if I could take the dog into any of the pubs and would have to ask the individual establishments.A little disappointed I went into the pub opposite, The George, and had a coffee. The dog was welcome and they even had dog biscuits on the bar counter. Everyone was very friendly and I started talking to a couple of local people. They were somewhat taken aback by the information I had been given over the road and advised me that there were wonderful dog walks all around the town. The nearest one being the lane behind the pub, directly opposite the information centre. I spent two hours walking through the most beautiful countryside with amazing views of Castle Cary.If I had taken the advice of the lady in the tourist information centre I would have moved on from Castle Cary and found somewhere else to stay. As it happened my daughter and I stayed in town for the night and had another enjoyable walk the next day and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Castle Cary is such a lovely place and the people were very friendly. Such a pity the lady i spoke to obviously didn't know the area that well.
