Came for a pizza, left with the car in Bruton and a lift home. Happy hour is phenomenal and the pizza matches that.

A MUST if visiting Bruton ?? My husband and I come every time we visit and stay in Bruton - it?s a 2 minute walk from our Air B&B so we usually come for breakfast each morning and for supper. They were so sweet and did a little surprise ?Anniversary? dessert plate for us. Staff very friendly and food delicious. Aperols next level!!

Popped in for lunch and after realising it was not dog friendly we were directed downstairs to the ?covered? terrace which had wet tables a d no staff. My fault for not realising lack of dog friendly was pre booking- but the front of house manager was so snotty when I popped in to advise her of my mistake she put me off the place and felt totally unwelcome.
Picked up coffee (pretty decent) and an bang average almond crossiant (where half the frangipanis was left on the plate) and a lovely apply and blackberry cake but my god, would have been nice if the staff could crack a smile?. £16.50 for 2 coffee and 2 cakes that?s more than London prices
Totally disappointment ?. Their Pr team certainly sold a good tale?
Ps Burton is frankly and over hyped town there is nothing to stop, visit or shop for here not worth the visit

I really wanted to like At the Chapel more than we did. I'm afraid the PR around the place outstrips the reality which is an incredible shame. It has the feel of a place that once truly was destination worth travelling to, but somehow it feels faded in terms of service not aesthetic.
Yes it's a grateful building, and the bakery is superb, but when you book the room featured on the website, a beautiful space at the front of the building, I really think they should tell you that if you book on a Thursday night you will have continual delivering from 3.15am breaking your sleep as lorries arrive and unload under the window. After all a beautiful bedroom without any sleep... well, I won't say any more. What I did find in the morning was earplugs in boxes in the bathroom!! So I guess they do know it's an issue... they just fail to tell you when booking.
On a broader picture, staff were friendly but off the boil.. food the same... great drinks in the bar though.
All in all a disappointment, not just for us, but for the space itself, the architecture and design deserves to be much more. It should be 5 stars all round.

A beautiful building and great food. When Pizza tastes this good I would not hesitate to revisit. It's all about the crust. Wood fired oven with a great pizza chef is a perfect combo!

Beautiful, unique hotel with attentive staff, a lovely restaurant, and a lovely bakery attached.

Bit disappointed with tonight's experience.
Nothing appalling, but also nothing special and we were going out for a bit of a treat.
Having recently been to Peru (the home of Ceviche) admittedly the standard had been set very high. The Chapel ceviche was so bland it was pretty much tasteless. No limey flavour, no tiger milk, no grapefruit as advertised which seemed like a strange thing to put in there anyway. They don't make it with thin slices of Bream in Peru, its fat chunks of fresh tasty fish swimming in sauce.
Starters arrived 10 mins before our drinks so we washed down the last mouthful with them but it would have been nice to have a few sips alongside the food.
Burger was great as usual but you can't really mess them up, hake was oversalted. Needed lemon to lift it.
Espresso Martini was decent enough to finish up with.
Service was very average, no check backs or asking how the food was which did seem pretty weird at a place like the Chapel which for years set a very high standard.
Will just stick to their very good takeaway pizzas from now on I suppose!

Excellent bar snacks and delicious Sourdough pizza. Dessert not their strongest point but mains and delicious South African Babylonstoren wine made up for that.

Right in the heat of the village. Went here for a post wedding brunch buffet. Service and food were great. Recommend for a similar event.

Food is expensive, but quality ingredients and good portions. The chapel environment is lovey and we enjoyed our visit overall.
I think the timing of their service could do with some guidance. We sat down and were given our menus and then approached order in less than 5 minutes to order which felt very rushed. Then we finished all food and it was nearly 40 minutes by the time we actually left because we had to wait 25 minutes for the bill, whilst all sort of wide-eyed, knives and forks finished trying to catch the server's attention. Then once we had the bill having to actually get up to find a server to ask if we could pay 15 minutes later.
It just makes it a little bit awkward and clunky, especially when they weren't busy and there were plenty of servers moving around.
If you're going to charge the prices you charge, in such a pleasant environment I do think that the service should match.

Only stopped by for a quick coffee, and the service was pretty poor.
It wasn?t busy, but still took more than 5 minutes to order, and had to go up and remind them about my coffee after another 10 minutes.
I asked for an iced americano, but it was so hot it nearly burnt my mouth!
The hotel looks lovely, and the venue is superb. It?s just a shame about the service.

Combined review of the bakery and the restaurant/ bar.
We visited the bakery every morning during our 3-day stay and were very pleased with the quality. Highly recommend everything on the menu, but we tried pain au chocolat, croissant, raspberry and olive oil cake, passion fruit donut, rhubarb and custard bun, cinnamon bun, whole grain loaf, and the ciabatta rolls, along with daily coffees. Attentive staff and very tasty goods: 5 stars.
We visited the terrace for drinks after a hike and the setting is ideal, with shade and some slight sunny options, which was perfect after a long walk. The non alcoholic cocktails left something to be desired, which is to be expected but the high price point demanded more. 4 stars overall.
The restaurant setting was, once again, fantastic with great acoustics (not too loud, even though it was full). However, the food, including the bread (shockingly), was disappointing. We found bread items dry (presumably made too early in the day) and several items lacking punch. Two of us opted for the burger, hoping the best Sommerset to come through, but it didn't deliver. The bun was dry, meat overcooked such that it sort of resembled a smash patty but not quite, and generally felt like a pub burger that needed sauce to nurse it down. A real disappointment given the produce of the area and the £20 price tag. Pizzas looked very interesting, but fell short of expectations being too soggy, but good flavour on the dough. General starters were fine, but overly plain to the pallet. 3 stars, would not recommend.
Overall, the bakery keeps this afloat at 4 stars.
If you've read this far, this is your sign to treat yourself to a donut.
