Just to be upfront, the owner Garry is my cousin and my nephew is one of the chefs. That said, I haven?t lived in Bath for 24 years, and they had no idea I was dropping by or was in during the meal.
I have to say, they?ve done a fantastic job with this place. Fish and chips have been lifted way beyond a quick takeaway meal ? it really feels like something special. We started with oysters, which were super fresh and absolutely delicious. Cod and chips were beautiful. Generous portion and incredible crisp non greasy batter. The service was friendly and attentive without ever being over the top, and the whole atmosphere they?ve created is warm and welcoming.
Having owned a national award winning pub myself, I know just how much hard work goes into making a hospitality business successful. I was genuinely impressed with the level of care and attention to detail here.
Hats off to Garry and the team for what they?ve achieved. It?s clear they?ve built something really special, and now that they?ve also opened Sydney?s in the old New Inn next door, I can?t wait to come back and try that too next time I'm home in Bath.

Spent 2.5 days in Bath. Ate here twice.
Never had been to Bath before, and I'm certain the town is filled with great options for food.
Still ate here twice and if/when I return, I'll eat here again. The seafood was unparalleled. Fresh and treated with a perfect hand. Chocolate mousse was decadent.

We have been regular visitors to The Scallop Shell since we moved to Bath in 2016. It is without doubt one of the finest fish restaurants I have ever visited. It has a great level of decor. The staff are always professional, friendly and super helpful. The bath with the days fresh fish and seafood offerings is always a delight to see. On this last occasion we were having a celebratory lunch. We sat upstairs. We both had a large grilled prawn as a starter which was perfectly cooked and tasted delicious. We then both had the monkfish tail with chimichurri sauce. The cooking was sublime and this dish was even better than the starter. We also often visit with guests to Bath, our American friends especially like it. Cannot recommend The Scallop Shell highly enough, pay it a visit you will not regret it.

Booked in for a meal this past Monday and was 10/10. Great atmosphere , stunning food and good service . Even though they were short staffed (they were run off their feet the entire time we were there) we never felt forgotten. I didn?t get the chaps name who was on front of house, (Jai possibly?) he was worried that he?d not had time with us to talk us during our meal but we were perfectly fine. Scallops and prawns as starters were delicious , bream and cod as our mains were great and rounded off with a yummy strawberry cheesecake. Anyone going to Bath should visit, just try and book in advance as it gets very busy.
