A very special venue and one which should be a model for other locations. Pleasingly comfortable with a super café and good seating, we enjoyed our first visit to see the McCartney film ?One Hand Clapping? which brought back so many memories

One of the most unorthodox cinemas in the country. Visitors simply can't believe it to be true when explained that it is Shrewsbury's cinema. It's based in The Old Market Hall in Shrewsbury's market square and erected in 1567 in a classical renaissance style. Yes, it only features one screen but that ensures that only quality films are displayed. The intensity of picture projection and surround sound however, is completely up-to-date, offering an immersive experience far better than you would suffer in a typical multiplex. There are a number of double-seats towards the rear for couples and yet the view from the very front is equally enthralling. The toilets, not dissimilar to those found on an airliner, are clean and accessible and located directly outside the auditorium. The historic complex also combines a seperate café which permits you to take drinks (both soft and alcoholic) with you to accompany the film of your choice. In the café itself, take a moment to notice the internal mechanisms of the ancient mechanical clock featured outside on the front of this gorgeous building. The café is self-service but film tickets can be bought there and then in person, in additional to pre-booking online.

Always a lovely experience at the Old Market Hall whether you're there for coffee and cake or afternoon tea or taking in a film. Always busy and not always a seat available but a table will become free at sometime. The service is very good with a good choice of drinks and food. The actual cinema is amazing with great sound, picture and a great choice of seating. The seating down the one side enables you to use a shelf for your bits and bats.Unless you have someone really tall in front of you the view of the screen is very good.

Nice small cinema showing a wide range of films from modern releases to classics, and plays/ballets/operas live-streamed. Main downside is uncomfortable seats and the showing of a huge number of adverts before the film - expect 25-30 minutes of ads and trailers which is very tiresome!
