Nice people, but always huge queues and a long wait to just do the simplest of things. They spend a fortune on TV adverts telling you how good they are, then understaff their branches.
They wouldn't get so many people having to visit the branch, if their website was as modern as the other banks (eg The Halifax) instead of being years behind. Example - if you have a fixed rate bond that is maturing, most banks would give you an on line option to instruct them concerning what you want them to do when the bond matures. You'd be able to do that a few weeks before the actual maturity date, then the bank would carry out your wishes automatically. Not the Nationwide - they show you on line options for what you COULD do with your funds at the maturity date, but DON'T allow you to actually INSTRUCT them until the day after the bond actually matures. So poor, compared to other banks.
FOOTNOTE - perhaps the best indicator of how much the Nationwide really cares about their customers is the response to this review below - that link they give just takes you to the 'contact us' page on their website. How much more anonymous and impersonal can you get?!

As my wife who always does the banking,has an illness, I had to go into our local branch and deal with money transfers. At the desk I explained to a lovely young lady the name of Dee, that I was unsure what to do....Dee was a absolute pleasure to deal with and dealt with my issue with great professionalism. Well done to your fantastic team member. ?

The queue was slow and a shame another member of staff didn't jump on, as the customers at the till had lengthy queries and the staff could have done with support.
Anyway, I wanted to say a big thank you to Karen (who served me). She was exceptional. Very friendly and very helpful.

Having been in the Shrewsbury branch today and served by a lovely young male cashier. I think he deserves recognition for being so helpful as I had taken several bags of coins in of which he had to count some of them and not once did he complain or give a disapproving look !! He was a real credit to Nationwide.

Polite staff, clean shop, easy to use machines etc. I haven?t needed in depth assistance so can?t comment there, but assume that?s where their strength lies as I do feel a little like I?m not terribly important to the staff when I?m there ?

This is a very good Branch of Nationwide the staff seem happy in their work and also aim to please. Knowledge of products are to a high standard. Branch is well laid out and more staff on the counters than most, unlike you typical High Street branches.
