Came in with daughter on 01/03/2025 and staff made her cry whilst trying to spend her school books voucher. Same staff member kept coming up to her in the shop and asking her to move, then I watched as the staff member came and whispered to my child about how she shouldn't be touching things in the store. My child froze and started crying, I had to pick her up and carry her out of the store.
All my child did was consider some stationary after looking which book she wanted to purchase with her school voucher - she wasn't being destructive in the slightest. I watched as she calmly and respectfully placed every item she touched back where she got it from. She is a calm and mild mannered child.
The reaction from staff, considering 'stranger danger', was utterly ridiculous and, frankly, concerning. Staff members should not approach little children multiple times and attempt to talk to them in a hidden and whispering tone in front of their parents - if there is a problem, simply go to the parent watching things unfold before them. The behaviour I have witnessed today is very concerning, and I shall not be returning to the store with my daughter to spend the voucher provided by her school.

Visited this small WH Smith's store on Wednesday 04 November 2020 looking for some present ideas for Christmas. We thought WH Smith's might be closed on the next day due to the English lock down although Telford's WH Smith's was open as normal on the next day.The shop has two shopping lanes running from front to rear with a screen protected cash desk right hand side just behind the front door.

the inappropriately named Joy serves me often in this store, never with a smile or even a please or thank you. I gave her a scratch card to cash in and she refused to do it until I had scratched all the panels off thoroughly. As I had popped in without my wallet I asked if she had a coin I could use and she refused, thus forcing me to use my newly manicured nails, which were then ruined. This also upset all the customers queuing behind me as it took ages. The other staff in this store don't make such a fuss over scratch cards, just joyless joy.
