We arrived to check in after a long weary drive to find the door locked a local then told me that the landlord is in prison for fraud it would have been polite to inform me of the situation, and not waste my time and effort

Stayed here for one night as a stop over from bangor races, host was absolutely lovely, room was a great size and really clean, breakfast was lovely, hot and fresh and the lady who cooked and serves food was so friendly. Overall really happy with the hotel

We had our 50th anniversary meal with 18 members of the family some of the meals were just warm.we was not asked if we wanted desserts, my granddaughter crying she wanted ice cream it was 9 o'clock. The bill was settled by our children so I am guessing the bill must have been around £300 how could anyone refuse a child of her ice cream

Today we held my daughter and her new husbands wedding at The Black Lion, their room was beautiful. We used the function room upstairs.The food was amazing and the staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They all went above and beyond what they needed to do. The whole day ran like a dream. So thank you all. Weddings can be stressful but thanks to the Black Lion team we relaxed with family and friends, danced and all went home happy. Lots of memories to keep

Massive portions of food - check out the Lion Burger...A nice old place with a decent choice of both food and beer.The wi-fi kept dropping out but it was free! ?

Historical building inside and out and warmly decorated too.Fantastic location and Ellesmere with it's meres, historic buildings and the closeness of the Llangollen canal right on it's doorstep makes it is a very special, attractive town no doubt.The staff were friendly and welcoming even though they were very busy with the Sunday lunch sittings.Finally managed to get two portions of chips and sat outside in the pleasant garden seating area with the dogs.The selection of drinks was great and my two pints of "Oblivion" real cask ale on tap was divine.

Went for a meal and the service and food were great, until the staff had a break, I was appalled at the foul language used by the staff, and smoking by them whilst we were eating. And they carried on with their loud vocal swearing when another family where there with a young child.

Family of eight sat in the beer garden, when we arrived kitchen staff having a fag break there wasn?t the best start. Ordered our meals, Childs burger was the only meal that was ok, everything was over cooked and burnt. Childrens meals arrived last, fish fingers were cremated and not edible, one adult burger was gluten free, they came an apologised after bringing two meals out that they had no gluten free baps the burger was black /burnt. The lasagne had chunks of solid béchamel in it and was tasteless. No staff came to ask if everything was ok. We waited for them to come and clear the plates so they could see but gave up in the end.

Have had a a few meals now at the black. I always send compliments to the chef and the waitresses Chloe,Holly and Alex are always very attentive and welcoming.
