Knackering if you plan on cycling over there, even the smaller rooms are nice and cozy, the food is a bargain and they offer quite large portions

Booked a table on Sunday for 2.30pm. Told on arrival that no roasts left. No chicken, pork or potatoes left. Remaining menu fairly basic. No sourdough bread with Pate and chicken, leek and ham pie (lacking 2 out 3 ingredients) together with lots of fries and peas swamped in fairly strong flavoured gravy. One of the worst pub meals experienced.......

Sunday 10 ? Monday 11 August 2025
This hotel looked so good but was so disappointing! We (my partner and I) booked on the day before for a Sunday night stay. Checking the hotel?s website we knew we could have dinner there, and after a busy weekend we just wanted to chill with a nice meal (the menu looked unexciting but reasonably priced), enjoy a couple of drinks at the bar and have an early night followed by a leisurely breakfast the next morning.
However, on arrival at 6pm we were told, in a very offhand manner by the receptionist that the kitchen closed at 4pm, there was no evening meal that night. She did not apologise or offer any suggestion as to where we might eat instead. There was a sign on the door confirming this, but the website was still showing incorrect information. The receptionist (doubling as barmaid), checked us in sullenly then led us silently to our room - we felt like we were just being an inconvenience to her. No information was volunteered about WiFi, times for breakfast or bar hours. We discovered the next morning that the little ?Welcome? card on the coffee tray had a QR code on the reverse which we could have scanned to find this information. Sadly this was not mentioned by the receptionist either. I have never checked into a hotel with so few words!
We settled in to the room, which was nicely decorated, with a huge bathroom (very few surfaces to put toiletries though). The shower was good, big towels, the bed was reasonably comfortable, and I can?t fault the cleanliness. There was no chair which was annoying, and no hairdryer. I did request one at the bar later and it was brought to us there (not taken to our room!).
We asked what time the bar shut and were told (and I quote) ?10pm?.or, well I might shut at 9pm if there are no customers!?. Fortunately there were some friendly local customers in the bar who kindly directed us to the nearby village and suggested places we might eat (mostly Indian or Chinese!). So now we had to drive to the village, find somewhere to eat (though no drinks for me as designated driver!), and drive back after. We did find a lovely pub with an excellent barmaid and were made to feel very welcome, and we ended up enjoying a delicious Thai meal, so the evening wasn?t wasted, though it certainly wasn?t the one we had planned. Returning to the hotel at 9.30pm the bar was indeed closed, so no nightcap for me!
Breakfast the next morning, with the only other four guests in the hotel, was served by a lovely lad who could have taught the receptionist a thing or two about hospitality! He was friendly, attentive and personable, though no sugar was supplied with our coffees ? luckily we don?t take sugar anyway! There was cereal, yoghurt, toast, jam and marmalade available, all help yourself, but the bread, marmalade, juice and milk were all uncovered and the area was full of flies, especially enjoying the bread and marmalade - I?m sure this is a hygiene issue. So we gave that a miss and had the full English and full vegetarian breakfasts, which arrived promptly and were hot (fresh out of the microwave?),but were mediocre, with very chewy bacon and dry vegetarian sausages. The quality of the breakfast actually made me glad we hadn?t been able to have the evening meal?.However the hash browns were excellent.
We made the best of our stay but it was so disappointing ? if only the information on the website had been correct we could have found another hotel and enjoyed the evening we had planned. The hotel itself is actually fine, the location perfect for a quiet country stay, but the reception staff was the worst I?ve ever come across, with no people skills whatsoever. She represents the hotel in the worst possible way, and the unexpected lack of an evening meal combined with her attitude means we will not be returning.

Had a beer in the bar - beautiful place low ceiling, snaking layout and very homely. Recommended.

A lovely country inn in a stunning part of the country. The food is good old fashioned pub grub, done really well. The rooms are comfy and clean. The staff are charming. It seems to be popular with the locals, and they were friendly and welcoming to us. Will definitely return.

Impossible to contact! I've phoned repeatedly, and have been put through to voicemail. Each time I've left my number (as requested), and have heard nothing back. I phoned reception, and was told I had to phone the number from which I've had no response. I've also emailed, again with no reply. Does not inspire confidence, and I'm giving up on them. Shame, but appears to be hopeless customer service.

The building was lovely, real old character and the staff were all so friendly and helpful.
Jo's Breakfasts were to die for! The food in the evening was so tasty, just check which days you book as they aren't open all evenings which didn't affect our plans too much. Would definitely stay again if we end up in that neck of the woods.

A good stop during a Saturday walk in March. Don?t let the somewhat sad looking parking/exterior tables deter you. It was v nice! Food was good (we had fries, pâte & a nice risotto) and staff was friendly. We sat outside but peeked inside and interior is far nicer than exterior would make you believe.
Also dog friendly!
Well worth a stop.

We stopped in for lunch. Staff were friendly and the bar and restaurant area was warm and cosy. Unfortunately, the food was really not up to par. Hubby had the gammon and eggs; the gammon was very tough. I had the cider battered cod, which was very bland, with too much batter, and the fish wasn?t cooked quite enough. At the table next to ours, the gentleman had to send back his roast lunch and order something else as the beef was gristly and inedible. Sad, because it?s a nice spot, but with a limited menu, you?d think they?d get every item spot on. Sadly that wasn?t the case.
