Visited the Down Inn for food which left a lot to be desired! Bland at best, and on the most part reheated food and mushy veg. Dessert wasn't great and service was lacking from the moment we arrived at the bar.
A place with so much potential yet very disappointing!

Stayed here on a Sunday night. We thought it was generally very good, just out of Bridgenorth. It was VERY busy with people who obviously enjoy the carvery. So did we! There was a choice of starters too and some vegetarian options. The staff ( and there were plenty of them) were friendly and efficient. Our room was large and very comfortable overlooking a flat roof but with a pleasant country view beyond. The only downside for us was that when we'd finished eating around 8:30 there was nowhere for us to just sit and relax with a drink. After a long journey we'd have appreciated that. As tables were being set up for the following day we retreated to our room. Breakfast was excellent.
Walkability: The pub is in the countryside so nice and quiet if that's what you want
Noteworthy details: Plenty of free car parking

Good food, could be some improvements, some food was only warm, broccoli was a bit soggy, and parsnips were beyond, but for the price it was decent .

My partner and I popped in a Saturday evening and they accommodated us immediately. All staff were really polite and friendly. We would like to say a big thank you to our waitress Nikki. Amazing service. We wanted to leave a tip but unfortunately we didn?t have any cash on us , so thought we?d leave a review. Lovely warm atmosphere and service was amazing. Thank you!

I had the misfortune to eat here a few years ago and while I did technically eat..it was not enjoyable. Don't expect this place to cater for vegan or gluten free diets as not even the "normal" food is anything to boast about.
But it's nice to see that they keep the local tradition of highway robbery going with the slight modification of robbing you inside as opposed to outside by some guy on a horse. (See coaching inns from the 17th century)
The food has remained unchanged since then as well though to be honest it's really nothing special and has pretty much the same menu as every pub that you find on a long road in the middle of no where
Personally I recommend you just keep going as no ones that hungry.

A bit like stepping back into the 90s walking in here. A very miserable welcome from a gentleman who I assume was the manager. They do not allow dogs inside so we had to sit outside on a not very pleasant day on a very noisy road.
On the plus side we had a nice pint but did not eat there and not sure I would have done as there was a strange smell inside.

Have visited the Down so many times over the years and have never had any complaints however l visited a few weeks ago and something has gone very wrong, the dining room seating was scruffy and looked soiled, there were bits of food under the table (we were there for 12. 30) which had probably been there since the day before, the waiters were so untidy and some elements of the food were poor, the cauliflower cheese tasted sour, the carrots hadn't been prepared properly and were hard, the broccoli was brown and the veggie gravy turned into a lump of curdled jelly as soon as it touched the plate, perhaps l just made the wrong choice, the sweet was excellent and huge, hope the Down returns to the good restaurant it has been in the past

Booked a table for Saturday night carvery. Nothing on the plate, including the plate itself was hot. I couldn't eat it and neither the waitress or the man who took our payment asked how the food was. We waited 20 minutes to look at a dessert menu, gave up and left. Won't go again.
