We had a problem with our first room. Problem was solved very quickly. Staff are fantastic. We really like the food. Views are amazing. Just need the good weather now. ?

What a shame very run down but beautiful view. Very disorganised even though not busy. Staff lovely. Had read food was lovely but ours was poor. Restaurant not heated so was expected to eat in lounge area where fire not lit and very low table. Had 'dog' friendly accommodation so basic but had cooker etc and Netflix everything very tired but again lovely view.

Very disappointing, apart from the excellent staff Alan, Cameron and Carter who went above and beyond, our 2nd stay here was a complete mess. We stayed from the 8th March to the 12th March 24We arrived to be informed that due to a technical issue with the biomass heating boiler, there would be no hot water or heating, bearing in mind its early March. It was cold, to say the least. The only respite was the stirling efforts of the staff to keep the log fires going in the only two hospitable places in the hotel. We subsequently discovered that the 'technical issue' with the boiler had indeed been going on for a very long time before we arrived. Why weren't we informed before we set off on a 7hr journey. Then the food began to deplete many items became scarce and the menu ran low, and already sparse choice became Hobsons worst nightmare. We tried to get answers from the owners, but apart from one brief self initiated discussion, we were left with a feeling that we liked it or lumped it. We were offered,on the 1st night, the facilities of one of the hotels lodges but as they're well away up a long dark unwalkable track, from the hotels other facilities we declined as we were assured that the boiler would be up and running the next day. Tepid water finally appeared on our last day of 4 nights far to late to avoid trying to keep clean and washed in cold water.Luckily our motivation to sight see, and keep warm driving around, a beautiful part of Scotland along with the staff trying to explain why the hotel was in such a decline, kept us from going home. The total lack of management assistance, information and personal intervention, the tired rooms, and chaotic infrastructure finally made our minds up. Beautiful breathtaking Scotland for ever but not at Portsonachan.Sadly we're not going to return to the Hotel.

The location of Loch Awe was beautiful and I would definitely go to the area again but I am unlikely to stay at the Portsonachan Hotel again. When booking the room I was offered an upgrade for £100 to a Loch view apartment which included continental breakfast. Being 30 minutes from the nearest town I thought the continental breakfast would be a great idea. However when we went for the breakfast we were seated in the bar, served watery coffee, toast, porridge and cereal (with no milk). To me this does not make a continental breakfast that I paid extra for and we're expected to pay extra on top of the original fee for hot food if we wanted it.The room was lovely, we were missing soap when we first arrived but that wasn't much of an issue and otherwise it was very clean and cozy.Just outside the room are also some stray cats that the hotel feed that were a nice suprise as we both love animals and spent a fair bit of time giving them pets.Overall the service and food really bring the place down as on one of the mornings the chef was nowhere to be found and had to ask the receptionist to make our toast for us. But the location and the room do manage to pull the hotel back up as the view over the Loch was beautiful.3/5

Stayed last summer. Lodge wasn't ready until 2 hours after they said it was, we paid a lot of money for it and were only staying 2 nights, so every minute counted. They apologised and gave us a free round of drinks. Great. Bar man serving couldn't have been less friendly. Also if you stay here once be prepared to be phoned by a call centre every month for the rest of your precious time on earth, even after asking MULTIPLE times to be taken off their list

We booked a lodge, which was lovely with views overlooking the loch. We arrived very late, however, Carter had organized our key collection and turned the heating on so everything was cosy and warm on arrival. The staff were very welcoming and concerned that we had a great stay and the food is very good. I've been before and I've already booked to go back. I think the hotel and lodges offer great value for money and the scenery is everything. As others have mentioned there are little things that could be improved very easily, such have lack of cutlery and missing crockery, but the staff will happily give you anything you ask for

Lovely hotel, we bought a voucher many months ago, 4 night stay, upgraded to a Loch view room, when we arrived they upgraded us again to a lodge, everything you could want in there and right on the Loch side too, views were fantastic ,the weather not so, but nothing you can do about that! We ate in the hotel on our first night, which was lovely, friendly staff too, then did the self catering thing the rest of the time. The water from the tap is undrinkable, but the hotel provide bottled water, so no bother there. The hotel is approx 3 mes down a single track road but there are plenty of passing places to get by if you meet someone coming in the opposite direction. Would like to go back, when the weather is a little better.

We stayed in one of the coach house apartments and it was lovely, couldn?t be any better. The Festive meals we had were excellent, the biggest helping of turkey I have ever had. The young people in attendance were so pleasant and helpful , they worked so hard at whatever was required. We will certainly be back for a fourth stay.Rooms: The apartment was very nice and well equippedNearby activities: WalkingSafety: Seems fineWalkability: Lochside walksFood & drinks: Good food and a nice barNoteworthy details: Like being a guest in a big house.
