I?ve been to other hmvs in other cities while on vacation - and they always hold up well with their great prices, friendly staff and wide range of records, DVDs, movies, Bluerays, books, CDs and more! Even though I didn?t buy anything, I knew I had to write a review of this place.

I was in this store the other Saturday.
What exactly is HMV now? It's not really a music store anymore, not really a movie store anymore... it's now like a pop culture mess instead. I liked the HMV stores when they basically sold CDs, DVDs, games and the occasional books. Now it's like a mishmash of Forbidden Planet, FOPP (which I'm aware HMV own) and anime stores. Rather than having a definitive stock aim, it feels like a mess. It was always one of my go-to stores for DVDs and CD purchases, as I'd rather buy in the shop than online. I also no longer like the fact the price sticker is now on the back of everything, as oftentimes it means you are unable to read the full description and you have to pull the DVD/Blu-ray out to see the price.
My issue with this particular store was when I was in browsing the other weekend, I suddenly became aware of someone immediately behind me whilst I was looking at the DVDs and Blu-Rays, I had a rucksack, so I quickly turned round to check if this particular person was trying to get in to my bag, only to find it was a female member of staff who was standing watching me, hanging around like a fart in a trance. I continued looking, but her lingering presence put me off, so I moved away, only to find she had then moved right beside me, pretending to sort through packaged t-shirts, whilst clearly keeping an eye on me.
I then proceeded to walk round the rest of the store, when lo and behold, she came up to me again. I was contemplating speaking to her about it, but knew I would probably end up losing my temper - and I wasn't going to give her the satisfaction of that, so I left and that will be the last time I set foot in that particular store.
I felt victimised by that specific member of staff, especially as the store was busy and I was the only one she was bothering with. The excuse might be used that I had a rucksack, but so too did other shoppers that day - what the hell else are we supposed to do if we have shopping? If we carry a bag from a different shop, they suspect that too! I find it deeply insulting, being in my 40s and having never shoplifted in my entire life, not only that but my Father was a policeman who established the anti-shoplifting squad in Strathclyde Police, so I have a MAJOR issue with all criminals. Maybe she fancied me or maybe she had an issue with tall, middle-aged white men, either way she either had a problem or not enough actual work to do.
When I did shop work as a student, we had something called subtlety, when watching the shop floor.
To add further insult, I then found they appeared to have called over the shopping centre security guard to wait and watch me as I left the store. Now I may have had a rucksack, but I was not messing with the rucksack when I was in the shop, it remained on my back. When I was browsing and I'd seen multiple DVDs and Blu-Rays I was tempted to buy, but because of the lack of discretion of that member of staff, it put me off giving my business to that store. The real joke of it was that very same day I witnessed a dash and grab in a different store in the centre, where a black guy ran out of Boots with stuff hidden in his jacket. But no, of course, the security would rather hassle a middle class, middle-aged white guy on a shopping spree, than tackle an actual criminal. Not impressed.

Prices of some items can reach crazy numbers but overall it's always been a "go to" shop for me, less so nowadays but I pop in on occasion to see if anything catches my eye.
