We had another superb meal here recently, after being twice in October too. Didn't disappoint, food well presented, tasty and good value for money. Staff are friendly and attentive. I highly recommend it - C'est magnifique

How lovely to have a little taste of France in the middle of Selkirk. An inspired menu with so many familiar delights for a really good fixed price. Charming, friendly staff and prompt service. Quality ingredients treated with care and very well cooked. Succulent, sweet scallops with an unusual citrus spin. Fillet of cod also juicy with crispy skin enhanced with Parmesan and prawn and chive butter. Superb venison fillet and dauphinois. Most enjoyable. The only downside was the cool temperature and very noisy air conditioning unit(?). However, we shall definitely be back for some more of that cooking!

Had been wanting to try Number One for ages, last time I noticed it when was up in the Scottish Borders and the visit didn't disappoint! The menu is exceptionally good value - my parents and I came for lunch and it was definitely a highlight of the weekend, as I wanted to try as much as possible we enjoyed an aperitif whilst perusing the menu and some of the bar snacks - I had the recommended gin Opihr with Ginger Ale, Orange and Chilli - superb! Great mixed olives but the haggis bon bons were phenomenal - perfect texture and flavour would happily go back just for those and a glass of wine! Onto the food for starters we had; Boulettes de Chévre, Pètoncles & Gratin de Crevettes - all throughly enjoyed, presentation well thought out and flavours perfectly balanced. To follow we had Chicken Supreme, Steak Frites & Chevreuil - apt as it was Game Week. Again dishes were super good presentation, tasty and complimented with top notch service. Wine list to order by the glass also well thought out, which helps if you want different wines with course to compliment the dishes. To end there was tarte tatin & taste bourdaloue - I opted for a pumpkin spice espresso martini after seeing it on their social media plus the steak was very decent size so couldn't manage a dessert even though they looked delicious! I can see why this place is so popular with locals and those slightly further afield around the Scottish Borders. Traditional French dishes done with Scottish flair - well worth a visit, already looking forward to returning in the not so distant future!

Best restaurant we?ve visited in the Borders (in 5 years) - also pretty good value ? lots of lovely attention to detail ? we had options for a table and unusually went for the one by the door as there was a good heater by it and I never noticed a draft. Chairs much more comfortable than most, nice choice of both cocktails and wine by the glass and food all you could hope for. Very happy ? will be back ??

We greatly enjoyed lunch in this charming and friendly restaurant. Service was attentive, engaging and friendly. Between us we had most of the dishes on the menu and everyone enjoyed their food. Wine list is varied and very well priced. Highlights were confit duck and sole Veronique. This is a gem of a place with great food, wine and very reasonable prices.

Outstanding experience. Friendly, down to earth wait staff. Very casual atmosphere. We were lucky enough to get a same day RESERVATION. It?s a small place so I was told you can?t get in without one. We witnessed that as we saw 3 different parties turned away. If you?re still reading this, stop and make a reservation. You have to call, as the web link takes you to the owner?s personal page (a little weird) I don?t know if their menu varies but I?d strongly recommend the French onion soup, the smoked duck salad, short ribs and especially the Sole so delicate and buttery it will melt in your mouth. 3 course meal with wine for under £100. It was worth triple the price.

A lovely experience at Number One. Gorgeous food and great value for money. Three courses for under £25 was an absolute steal considering the quality of the food and the brilliant service. Special mentions to the Chèvre and Steak frites. Thank you so much!

Small and well presented restaurant that delivered good food at a sensible price. What's not to like about it? Since I asked... the only complaint would be that we weren't able enjoy the chat with our server as others poured in to fill the place. The poor old chef had his hands full, so we enjoyed the ambience without that feeling that 'they' want the table back. But, that isn't a complaint, its an observation, and a very positive one. The competent chef was on top of the case, turning out a steady stream of delicious looking items, and even made a couple of personal appearances regarding the onion soup. We were a walk in, and just in time, and were invited to choose our table, which we did, and despite the other inviting items on the menu went for what seemed to be the house recommendation of the week, and enjoyed an excellent meal, attentive and friendly service, concluding with an indulgence of desserts. In the French style, we spent longer than anticipated over the meal, and felt all the better for it. Next time we're in Selkirk, we'll be sure to book ahead.

A group of non-french people have a good french restaurant in Scotland. It?s a nice indoors place where you can find good meals, not really french, but a good menu. Above all, I would highlight the onion soup and the duck.

Booked for my partner's birthday as we know it's a little gem of a place and as always, we weren't disappointed. In fact, we raved about the meal all night! The goats cheese tartlet was a particular highlight. The food is delicious and amazing value for money and the welcome is warm. You will not be disappointed

We eat here regularly - the set menu is delicious and great value, though you do need all three courses to fill you up.

We always enjoy going to Number One. The set price menu changes monthly and has a good selection of French bistro style classics. Lovely summer cocktails were a highlight this time. Excellent food, great service and very reasonably priced.

Fabulous food, lovely atmosphere and wonderful waitresses. This was our second visit to this restaurant. Once again we were very impressed with the quality of the food. Great food, presented wonderfully and very affordable. We will definitely be back.

We ate here twice during our 5 night holiday visit to Selkirk. It would have been more but we couldn't get a table for other nights! The food is fabulous and Tracey and her team are so friendly and welcoming. The menu is incredible value for money, I don't know how they do it! Don't forget to book, you won't regret it.
