Food is delicious! Made working away a treat as opposed to the standard franchise hotels I'm used to being booked into. Would hugely recommend anybody to stay here it's excellent.

A warm welcome from Paolo despite him not expecting us through a computer booking oversight. The loveliest scottish breakfast, made to order. Paolo chats to you like an old friend where nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is immaculately clean, stylishly furnished in old world with all the modern touches for comfort. The bed in the pheasant room is the most comfortable and huge bed Ive ever slept i (I dont want to leave ) the rooms are comfortably large. The hotel is right on the river Nith creating a very tranquil ambience, lovely grounds and visible fresh produce being grown for the kitchen. Between Paolo and the two amazing waitresses Paris and Brodie that have the perfect mix of great service and fun conversation, the tranquility, comfort and good food, we've had the nicest weekend. Well worth every penny and we will definitely return. Thank you Blackaddie ?

Stay in one of the cottages, so I can't comment on rooms. We had two delicious meals from the restaurant, highly recommended for a treat or special occasion.

Just had the most fabulous dinner at Blackaddie. Paolo and his team are brilliant. I would have gladly licked the plate if a friend hadn?t stopped me. ???We would highly recommend Blackaddie for superb food in a nice relaxed atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble.

We had a delicious dinner at this restaurant with very friendly staff. The Chicken Stroganoff was amazing as was the Orecchiette ! We were late getting out of a meeting, but when we called at 8:30pm they said if we got there by 9pm, they could serve us dinner. We walked around the property and wished it was daylight because we could tell the river and field views would be outstanding. We will definitely be back again.

We stayed in a cottage with my parents. The cottage was lovely and we ate in the dog restaurant. Although my husband and me are vegans the chef gave us choices and the food was fantastic. If we hadn't already booked another place beforehand for dinner on our 2nd night we would have eaten in the Hotel again. We all loved the food and our break. All the staff we met were lovely too. Would recommend and we will be back. A great base for exploring a lovely part of the world.

We stayed in one of the hotel?s cottages for a few days. These overlook the River Nith. Owners friendly. I found the lighting in the cottage a bit dim: it was February, and my eyesight is dimming too! Rather cool when we arrived but soon warmed up. Owner happy to get feedback and will put in a reading lamp or some such. Double bed really comfortable for us - what I call a ?German style?: two separate mattresses. The online booking system for these cottages seems a bit temperamental: they looked book solid for months, but I checked with Anna and she let us know actual availability- so do ask if that happens to you. We ate dinner in the hotel twice: excellent food, we thought. Local rack of lamb really tender but still pink. Dining room a bit cool - but a lovely old room with original windows, so understandable. We cooked on one evening: reasonably well equipped and due to be refurbished. No kitchen towel or drying up cloth but we had our own (or we would have asked). Lots of walks direct from the hotel: we did one up the Euchan Water. Newsagent in town sells a wee local book about them. Town very friendly, lovely butcher (pies, ham etc for picnics) and bakery. A? the Airts café and gallery was being refurbished, but had a small space in the church hall: fell in love with a beautiful traditional Sanquhar pattern scarf - the hotel has a wee collection for sale too. Good for birdlife: dippers, nuthatches, a rookery in a nearby stand of trees, a kite on the edge of town. We?d stay here again.

My sisters and a brother in law stayed at one of the riverside cottages over New Year?s Eve and New Year?s Day. The cottage was very comfortable with the bathroom being the highlight. The shower is great and for bath lovers there?s a huge and deep bath. We had dinner at the hotel on our first night. Good menu, food well cooked and presented and the service was excellent. Big bonus for us (and our fellow residents as we found out) is the dog friendliness of the hotel. We met some very nice doggies during our stay ???. This part of Dumfries and Galloway is a delight to get out into the countryside and blackaddie house and it?s cottages are right on a river walk. Couldn?t be better. Would recommend and

Very comfortable hotel with a welcoming log fire in the bar to complement the welcome from the staff. Well cooked food using Scottish ingredients where possible. Very peaceful situation on the edge of Sanquhar. Never heard a raised voice during our 3 night visit! A great centre for exploring the area. A wee surprise on check out was a reduction on the quoted rate for DB&B because we didn?t always have 3 courses at dinner! No hesitation on returning if we are in the area. Many thanks to all the staff.

This is not the place to if you want staff fawning over you! Friendly but not hanging around waiting to pounce. I am comfortable with that. The room was in good decorative order not overly glitzy, very clean and dog friendly . The food was excellent on both nights, well presented and very good quality, add this to excellent breakfast what more could you want?

I left the hotel traumatised, having just heard the wife of the owner screaming and swearing in the kitchen. We were just about to check out when she could be heard shouting at the top of her voice and using the f word. I went into the car park where the other 2 guests were standing and about to check out. We looked at each other in amazement and horror. I had read some earlier reviews about a woman screaming and shouting and thought this referred to the previous owners- it is in fact the current owners. The dat before my husband had returned from our bike ride as he had forgotten something and saw the same women in her dressing gown shouting at the owner. She was oblivious to my husband , a paying guest. We paid the bill ( which imo was higher than contemporary hotels - compare with The Mabie Hotel for example). The woman who had served our breakfast checked us out. I said to her that it was terrible to hear someone shouting and swearing. She apologised. I replied that I hoped she was OK- the fact is - she is working in a verbal domestic abuse environment. Overall, our experience was mediocre. The hotel had very few guests. We arrived to be informed that part of the shower was broken in our chosen room and we were offered an alternative, neither of which were acceptable as both overlooked some sheds and we had chosen a room with a view. As we had been travelling all day we took the room with the broken shower but were not offered a reduced rate. Breakfast was sparse. There was no yogurt and fruits as one would normally find with the cereals and I had to make a special request. It was then assumed this is all I wanted for the £20 per head we had paid for breakfast. ( I did manage to ask for poached eggs on toast which was served as one egg on one dry white toast). We had dinner from the lounge menu - it was tasty but the portions were small. We also had to sit in the conservatory lounge on our own to eat it. There was one other couple in the restaurant. It might have been more comfortable for us to eat in the restaurant but they clearly wish to maintain the division between those paying restaurant prices and those paying lounge prices. This aside it was the female shouting and swearing which really spoiled our stay. If this hotel wishes to survive they need to sort out whatever private trauma is going on. Clearly, this woman is very unhappy as we experienced her shouting on each of the 2 days we were there. They are clearly unaware of the effect that hearing verbal domestic abuse has on people and I drove away feeling shaken and traumatised.

Very helpful when we got our dates wrong, lovely place and we hope to return to try the great food and enjoy the wonderful surroundings next year!
