Dietary restrictions: The batter dipped fish was made gluten free, so crispy and tasty! Highly recommended!

Delightful surroundings, lovely and attentive service and the food is truly amazing. Such a variety and locally sourced. Such a collection of whisky!

Dinner meal did not match tone of the menu. The helping of lamb was minute, two one inch round chunks accompanied by a third nondescript, fibrous substance. Displayed on a large plate the impression was of short rations with a tame effort at decoration. The potato chips were soggy and only just warm, a far cry from the ideal of golden outside, firm and toothsome and hot. The vegetables were warm, soggy and without any individual taste. The dessert was berries with pastry? Quite forgettable.

Dined as a family of 4. The restaurant ambience and the staff were lovely. The food itself was lovely- however- we all found that for the cost of the meal the portion sizes were far too small. Further, having to pay a further charge for ?vegetables' was unreasonable considering the cost of the main courses. Larger portions would have made it a more memorable meal.

So disappointed after receiving a voucher from my daughter for our 45th wedding anniversary, we expected a really good meal. I had a buffalo burger which was good, however my husband ordered pork. His meal consisted of two small squares of pork loin (which was a bit chewy) and one square of pork belly which he said was tasty and wished there was more! These squares were about 2 inches! Along with the pork, he had a dribble of jus which was drying up fast, 3 narrow sticks of very sour rhubarb and nothing else. For £24, it was a shocking main course. We shared my chips which were good but it was ridiculous he did not have a potato or veg of some description on his plate. I then ordered lemon meringue tart for pudding. The pastry was uncooked, the lemon filling and meringue were bland. My daughter and son in law had been there a few months ago and received a good meal, so we were expecting the same. I had mentioned it was our sapphire anniversary and expected a balloon on the table as a nice gesture, which is usually the case at other hotels but no acknowledgment whatsoever of our special occasion. So disappointed!!

We were staying in the hotel, and the main floor restaurant was an easy choir both dinner and breakfast, however we were pleased to experience delicious food and great service.

Vegetarian options: Spinach Gnocchi were good. But only 11 pieces for 18 £.

This place in its current iteration is a real gem in northeast of Scotland. Perhaps it is a bit too far on the fine dining spectrum for its own good in its environs, but it is well worth the reasonable cost and somewhat sterile atmosphere for some of the best food in the region.Having been in fine restaurants from Glasgow on up, Toots stands firmly toward the top with highlights such as the beef shoulder and the roe deer, not to mention the excellent sides, all of which were excellent.Toots is worth a trip to Rothes alone, but if one is in town for one of the many world-class distilleries in the area, it only makes sense to pair it with world-class cuisine as can be found here.

When first opened after renovation the Toots bar area was thriving and provided fantastic quality bar meals. This is the first time I've visited in a while and arriving at 7pm on a Saturday night the Toots bar was empty, not a single soul around. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The menu has definitely changed, out with the good old favourites and replaced by a menu with items that sounded sourced from Masterchef. The starters, though extremely small, we're really nice (Local Roe Deer, and Shetland Scallops) the main course was much better portioned and was very tasty, Buffalo Shoulder, and a Buffalo Burger. The sweet however was extremely disappointing for those who chose the Clootie Dumpling, an extremely dry what seemed like Ginger Cake (nothing closely resembling a Clootie Dumpling) and covered in a green tasteless foam (described as Espuma) - luckily I had chosen the Biscuits and Cheese. The whole evening we were there a couple came in, as well as a single person. There was no atmosphere and the place has lost its buzz and life. I'm not sure if that because of the new overly fancy menu for a bar area, or the fact the locals no longer feel welcome in a bleak atmosphere. Unfortunately both the menu, and the dead atmosphere will stop me from returning anytime soon, which is such a shame for a once great local business.
