I?ve been a customer at this café for many years and have usually found the staff friendly and welcoming, one of the main reasons I?ve returned. However, my recent visit was dismal. I have never been treated so badly in any cafe.
I went in at 5:55 PM after a difficult day, hoping for a peaceful and relaxing haven. Instead, I was ignored for the first several minutes, and when finally acknowledged, I was pushed to ask for a takeaway rather than a sit-in option. I don't remember the younger junior staff member whereas the other staff member I'd seen on some occasions. But as a pair, and especially the senior member, they worked diligently to be the epitome of unfriendliness.
I ended up accidentally ordering caffeinated coffee instead of decaf because I felt so uncomfortable. At 6:10 PM?just 15 minutes after I walked in and 20 minutes before closing?the staff had already made it very clear they wanted everyone out. When I have gone in just before 6:00 p.m before this was not the case. This pair took my cup away, the senior gave me a dirty look, they turned off the music, shut up the fridge, and began banging, clattering & the senior swept right around my feet. She also opened the door, ostensibly to sweep outside, but it brought a freezing gale of sub zero air right where I was sitting. By 6:20, I was the last customer because the others had already been hounded out and I couldn't stand it anymore which was the obvious plan. It could not have been clearer they wanted to leave themselves at, or ideally before the stated time of 6.30 rather than close the shop then. I cannot imagine treating anyone this way, never mind a customer.
I understand the desire to clean up before closing, but the way this done was rude, selfish & unprofessional. If you want people out at six o'clock you should change the opening hours and tell people at quarter to 6 that you will be closing in 15 minutes. I was left feeling that I had done something wrong when actually I was a customer who walked in 35 minutes before closing. I hope this experience was an anomaly, as it doesn?t reflect the service I?ve come to expect from this café over the years.

Best coffee in town

I sometimes go out my way to go to Nero because I like the mocha coffee however there is one member of staff puts me right off. I believe possibly it?s the manager seams more interested in talking about herself to other staff than focusing on the customer. This frequently happens when I?m in store and I?m not prepared to wait while someone else uses her coffee counter as her stage. This week, early morning I was in the shop and there was a cue forming of at least 5 people, none had been served. The woman in question was more interested in having the attention of her work colleagues while she discussed her ?late night? or something similar while the cue of customers stood wondering what?s going on. I get the impression the customer comes second but discussing her life outside of work comes first. Other staff seem great, I still like the coffee and I?ll give it another go but I?m getting pretty bored of her attitude and I?ll probably stick to the independent shop around the corner before to long. My advice to her would be yes of course enjoy your day at work, have fun but customer first?. Or maybe your in the wrong job. Coffee isn?t just a hot drink, it?s a culture.

Smashing cup of coffee and lovely friendly staff. Their carrot cake is lovely and moist and tasty.

Service is SO slow. Staff are polite but have no sense of urgency and do everything at a leisurely pace. Not the place to visit if you're in a rush or don't want to wait an age. This is based on multiple visits at different times of day.

Excellent place to have a coffee and a sweet while getting some work done. The upstairs is large enough and quiet enough to get a few hours of work on the computer done. Free Wifi, plug Ins and space.

Impossible to connect to their wifi; sign up procedure slow and cumbersome. Free WiFi is a given in any Coffee shop!

I had a delivery placed today through deliveroo and it there were several issues but NONE IF THEM DUE TO THE STORE. The store were so lovely when they contacted me to tell me what was happening and even told me to try and cancel the order. Eventually deliveroo managed to rectify the issue but the store themselves still added apologies to the order and freebies. Thank you so much to the staff member who called me, I absolutely love this store and the staff both when ordering and when sitting in. Thank you ??
