We're back after 9 years! It has changed hands and is slightly different in style/ambience (less formal). The food is still extraordinarily good and the wine choice.
Well behaved dogs welcomed

Ate in the restaurant as non-residents. We were greeted immediately and shown straight to our table where we were offered water and then promptly served our chosen drinks. The menu was great with multiple options - seemed like there would be something for everyone on there. We both had starters and mains but were unfortunately too full to attempt a pudding. The food was all very fresh and beautifully presented. The staff were attentive and polite. The decor was very nice throughout and the toilets were clean. Also nice to see details such as fresh flowers on the table. Would absolutely eat at The Horseshoe Inn again if we're back in the area.

Sweet place to stay, the room was very tasteful and modern although the mugs were rather too large. Conveniently positioned near their restaurant which we booked a table for the evening. Delicious food and the waitress was very helpful and sweet. Breakfast in the morning was awesome and porridge made with cream is always a winner in my book. Highly recommend and would definitely return. This place is also only 22 minutes from Rosslyn Chapel, also recommend you visit too!

We stayed here for five days while attending a wedding at the nearby Barony Castle, and I can't praise The Horseshoe Inn enough! The rooms at the inn were small but cozy, with comfortable beds and everything you need included. The free breakfasts at the attached pub were generous and delicious, as were all the meals. The fish and chips were heaven! The chicken and leek pie was amazing, with a flaky crust and creamy, tasty interior. The staff were friendly and helpful but not at all intrusive. And to top it off, the bus from central Edinburgh stops right outside the inn door. The setting is bucolic, the food beyond delicious, the rooms cozy - I really hope I have another chance some day to stay here!

Called on speck on Saturday lunch time. Tables were available and we were made to feel very welcome. Food was extremely quick and very hot. Worth stopping off if you're passing

A really enjoyable weekend at The Horseshoe Inn! Very friendly and attentive staff, excellent food, and good prices. Would definitely recommend.
Only negatives were a bed that was too soft, and the shower drain needing unclogged to let it drain properly. Otherwise, a very nice hotel to stay in, explore the Borders, and have some lovely food and drinks!

Don't know if this place changed hands, but it went downhill.
It was booked 3 days before for a party of 9 for the RESTAURANT!
Called the day of to confirm and was told yes in the restaurant.
Arrived to an almost empty restaurant only to be seated if the bar area. The smell of what I thought to be heating oil was overwhelming.
Asked twice to be moved to the restaurant area only to be given lame excuses.
After some people were feeling the effects of the smell .
We all left without ordering.
The management ought to be ashamed to have let 9 people walk away .
Plus they lied when they took the booking.

Reading the reviews prior to going for a family meal here on Sunday raised my excitement and expectation levels as the food seemed to reveive overwhelmingly positive feedback. Unfortunately the food didnt match the online reputation. I had Cullen skink soup which was underwhelming at almost £11 a bowl. There were more potatoes that fish in there and amongst the small prices of fish I did find, a bone got lodged in my upper mouth. For main I had fish and chips, which was ok. The service was friendly and the atmosphere pleasant. However what was telling and spoke volumes about the food was that through the whole meal and afterwards not one person between the 4 of us spoke about how nice the food was. Silence can speak volumes

We visited as a group of 12 to round up a surprise weekend for my husband's 40th birthday. The staff were absolutely wonderful, so welcoming. The effort made was out of this world! The staff laid out decorations and went the extra mile! The food was absolutely outstanding at a reasonable price too, which is rare these days! A million more stars is warranted! Thank you all for rounding off our day to an absolute T!

We had a delicious meal here. The staff were attentive, the service was quick yet personal, and the portion sizes were excellent. We had cask ales, which were well maintained, and there was an excellent array of alcohol free beer for the drivers amongst us. I will be back!
