I?m giving four stars although I really liked the place. Given its age and size, there are some limitations. It?s a very quaint hotel that has been in business for a long time. It?s an old building. A lot of history in the place. It?s a nice place to hang out in. We stayed one day and wished we had more time.Very steep winding stairs that you really need to be careful with. Check in is on the ground floor. John is a very nice, efficient front desk person. Carries your bags upstairs two at a time. Gives helpful advice on local restaurants and other places. He?s a great resource. The rooms are the next floors. They?re small which is kind of expected since it?s such an old building. They appear to be well maintained. For example, the caulking in the shower looks like it was done professionally. It was neat and clean. No receptacles in the bathroom. Small shower stall but it operates well. Everything was clean. Bed is firm, comfortable. Pillows terrible. Huge bath towels. You won?t be able to fit them into your suitcase (just kidding) -but they really are huge. Not much workspace in the sink area. It?s a little funky to enter. During the main hours, you enter via a small nondescript door near the very small reception area. After hours, you use a key to enter the building. You also get an actual key to enter your room - not a card Iike most places. There?s a bar attached with a collection of 320 scotches. I got a three item sampler of three reputable Islay scotches for 35 pounds. The bartender was very knowledgeable about the scotches. Great atmosphere in the bar area. There?s another very cozy bar area that is not staffed with a fireplace. You can sit there but must go to the main bar for service. You shouldn?t miss it.

This is for the bar - didn't stay at the hotel. Only in Oban for a couple of days; we've been here both days. Kyle and Chris really know their whiskies! An excellent selection of whiskies as well as full bar with beer and wine. Great outdoor seating. No TVs, no sports, just a friendly, relaxing place. If we lived here, this would be our place to hang out. Can't wait to come back!

What a great historic building with sympathetic modern design. My room was perfect - so cute. The owners and bar staff so incredibly nice. They have a great whisky bar with indoor/outdoor seating. My room came with all the necessities and was so quiet I was able to get a good night?s sleep. Highly recommend

This is a small number of rooms (10?) above a bar called The Whisky Vaults. The bar seemed popular and had an extensive outdoor as well as indoor area. Luckily for those of us staying in the hotel it was not too noisy, even though I stayed on a Saturday night. What was noisy were the guests coming back at close to midnight. Americans. They stood on the landing between 4 rooms and chatted for about 20 mins!Other negatives about the hotel include: size of rooms. I don?t mind small but these are very small. I also found a long hair in the middle of my bed and the bed was not well made. I don?t think the sheets were unwashed but housekeeping should check that hairs have not ended up in the beds!Positives: blackout curtains were amazing. Room was a great temp - not too hot and not too cold. For 90 pounds it was an ok price. I would probably try somewhere else next time but the options with such a great location are limited in Oban.

Didn't stay here but the staff on the bar were lovely and they pulled a nice pint!

We didn't stay at the hotel but the bar is amazing. We were recommended to check it out by the staff at the Oban Distillery and I'm very glad we did. Great selection of whiskies and very friendly and knowledgeable staff who are very happy to talk you through some of them.

Tucked away on a little street and offered everything we needed. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the room while small served us well and was clean, tidy, up to date and felt secure. Some nicely made wooden fittings also. Really well situated to explore Oban. The hotel also has a great bar with a fantastic whisky selection true to the name!

We came here because the Distillery was closing and had no more tours. We are certainly glad we did! I think I learned more about whiskies and got to taste several. Great place and friendly staff.

Well worth a stay. lovely rooms, with a great bar and a huge array of whisky to choose from. The stairs are a little steep, but that's because it's an original building and you can get help with your luggage from the very friendly and helpful staff. No breakfast, but they deliver a packed breakfast to your door at 07:00 - pan au chocolate, yoghurt, fruit, water. Perfect if you're catching the morning ferry to one of the islands and there are plenty of cafes to "top up" your breakfast later.

Great place to have a dram. We went here after the guide from the Oban Distillery recommend this place. The staff know their stuff when it comes to whisky and will help you get a great dram. No mater if you?re a beginner or a seasoned dram expert you will get what you?re looking for here. It?s a bit hidden behind the main boulevard but it?s worth the sort walk to get there.

Great selection of whiskey and beer. Great that you can order takeaway from chippy and get it delivered without leaving the bar. Giving me more drinking time.

Excellent location in central Oban but on a quiet street. Hotel was spotlessly clean - the room was very small but comfortable and with attention to detail - perfect for an overnight stay. Breakfast was not included but a complementary breakfast bag was provided which was thoughtful. The lady in reception & housekeeping was so helpful and carried my bag up and back down the very steep stairs.

Hotel is a great choice for those taking a morning ferry, as it is within easy walking distance of the terminal. There is parking across the street. The friendly young woman working at the front desk was particularly helpful, in that she got us breakfast bags the night before, and helped with dinner recommendations.

This is a wee hidden gem. The Vaults is whisky heaven but if you're not a fan....worry not, they've a great selection of beers, wines and spirits.John the owner is really knowledgeable and passionate about every one of his 500 bottles and you can enjoy some really expensive malts by the glass at a fraction of the retail price. There is a simple food menu which is produced in association with George Street chippy so you get the best fish & chips hand delivered direct from the fryers across the road. It's a winning combination. They also have recently started BBQ evenings and there's a great chilled cool vive to the place and no idiots (at least not when Selkie visited).
